powdered formula expiration?

The can of my powdered formula says to use within one month of opening. Because I am still BFing and only supplementing here and there, we are not going to be finished within a month. We bought organic formula, which was rather pricey, so I hate to discard it after one month if this is really not necessary -- but of course I don't want to give my baby something that is dangerous. Does anyone know anything about the expiration date and what it really means? Thanks so much!

    Hi!

    While I was still BFing, I would supplement 2ou of formula in DS's night time bottle. I would make sure to get the smaller can because the one time I got the bigger and I let it go past 30 days...well it got all clumpy and weird looking. Lesson learned and got the smaller can. That way there was little or no waste after 30 days.
