So Ive been teetering with PTing Madison for like amonth now, ESP with all the hoopla on here (thank you very MUCH!)!! So at first I was like YAY!! SUCH A BIG GIRL! LETS DO IT!! but then I hear some of the comments about "Itll happen when it happens", "She'll tell me when shes ready", "Diapers are annoying, but WAY easier".....SO I kinda agree that they ARE more convenient only because she can just GO wherever, whenever. I dont have to stop in the store and rush her to go, or stop while Im driving, etc....Is that selfish? Cause its more "convenient" for me?? Madison is NOT a talker so the only indication so far that Ive had that she MAY want to is that when she poops, she points down to her diaper and scrunches her nose like a "stink face"...(Which is SO CUTE, by the way). Is that enough of a "sign"? When I put her on the big potty, she fusses to get off and shes NEVER gone on it before....Im pretty sure I do NOT want a potty, if I do it I want her to just have a ring on the big potty, just dont see a reason to train twice....SHOULD I or SHOULDNT I???
Re: How selfish am I??? LOL
Get the ring. It's definitely the lazy way, which I love.
I thought diapers were more convenient for a while there, too. But I pressed on. (And early, as you know.) SO GLAD I DID. They are NOT easier. You still have to carry supplies. (And I'd rather spend the money on things other than diapers.) Find a nice place to change her. Blah. DD and I are on the same schedule when we're out. So we both go at the same time. Super easy. She pees, I pee, we flush, and we're outta there.
Another thing to consider is the environmental impact. Even if you're using 7th Generation biodegradables, it's still iffy. Cloth? Water/electricity. I couldn't in good conscience keep DD in diapers one minute longer than I had to for that reason alone. (And I'm not even super crunchy.)
I keep my ears open about this stuff all.the.time. I hear more positive stories about 14 month olds than 4 year olds PTing! Older doesn't necessarily mean more 'ready', it can just mean more stubborn and set in their ways.
I know a lot of mom's on this board are into early potty training, but my DD is a lot like your DD in that she isn't much of a talker. She now will point to her diaper and say poop after she poops, but that is it! My pedi advised me to wait until DD is more verbal.
Pedi also said that a major sign they are ready is they stay dry all night. DD is still waking up with a FULL diaper so I don't think she is ready yet.
We did daytime training on my DS1 at 3 years old, and we just did nighttraining about a month ago. So you could do one if you thought she was ready during the day but not at night.
