Success after IF

Any long cycle successes?

I went off bcp in Feb and since then have been having wacky cycles (40+ days). Today is CD 57 with no O in sight....

Anyone successful with long cycles? If so, how long did it take you to get KU with long cycles?

TIA!

Re: Any long cycle successes?

  • i am queen of long cycles.  my record breaker?  161 days. nothing the ob/gyn did for me worked.  i didnt seek her help until i hit about cd 90 since i had just come off bcp. she tried prometrium to jumpstart af and hopefully regulate my cycle, but that didn't work. then i went on to see a RE  clomid didn't work either....injectables did.  i understand the frustration!

  • Well, I had no cycles..no AF, no ovulation.  So I needed an RE and injectables (Menopur)...and now I'm 6 weeks pregnant:)  Good luck!
  • I had no cycle from stopping BCPs last August until I took Provera in February.  I think it was about 5ish months, so approximately 150 days?  Anyway, it depends on what is causing your long cycles - I have PCOS and had infrequent (every 3-6 month) periods before BCPs, and I was anovulatory.

I took Provera (to induce AF) and then Femara (to induce ovulation).  Even with the Femara, I did not ovulate until CD24 (instead of CD14ish), and the estrogen levels I had drawn the same day did not even indicate that I had ovulated.  But I had a temperature shift the next morning, and I got pregnant on the cycle, so obviously I did ovulate.

If you are charting, you may be able to tell if you are ovulating.  If  you are not, an RE can run tests and prescribe drugs to help you cycle and/or ovulate if necessary.

  • Most of us here have diagnosed fertility issues, where we worked with an RE. Have you spoken to your OB? it is not uncommon for your cycles to be irregular for 6-8 months after bcp.  If you are just 6 months into ttc, a great resource to teach you to chart is Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Welchler.  Charting can give you a lot of info, it can tell you if you are ovulating or even getting a hormone surge right before or after, and so on. it can provide your doctor with the tools to work with your insurance company to get some answers.

You might want to try the getting pregnant board (they are a bit snarky, though) because most of us were off birth control for years, so I am not sure you are going to get the right info.

FWIW, on the cycle I got pregnant, it was my second IVF and I didn't O until cd20.

    Best of luck to you

  • My cycles were anywhere from 90-120 days just depending.  After a few treatments, we took a break before starting IUI's.  An OPK said I O'ed around CD 70 and I got pregnant.  Miracles do happen!

  • I'm also in the "no cycles at all" camp. I haven't gotten a period w/o being on bcp or taking progesterone since I was 15. Clomid did not work for me, but we did get pregnant our first injectibles cycle.
