1st Trimester

Hcg not doubling, very slow rise : (

Here are my numbers:

12 DPO - 134

21 DPO - 3233

27 - 13000

30 - 20000

32 - 23000

The last one is obviously an issue. My cnm says this is guarded. Still rising, but not to the extent that would be considered normal. Any thoughts? I am very concerned. She is running more b/w Tues. and we have an u/s Thursday. Last Friday no fetus was seen yet (but it was borderline early to see one anyhow)...The sacs measured at 5w6d. Not sure what to think or do at this point.

Re: Hcg not doubling, very slow rise : (

  • Just keep thinking postive hun. They are still rising....mine did not double either. You will get to know more at the u/s!

  • The exact same thing happened to me and unfortunately I had a m/c. This does not mean that you will neccesarily have one but my levels rose slowly for a couple weeks before they started to drop. The baby was measuring 5w something and I didn't actually m/c until I would have been about 9w. Good luck!
  • My SIL had problems with her HCG levels early on. She experienced previous miscarriages so was having them checked quite often and they were low to begin with and they actually dropped between two blood tests ~ her 6-7th week causing them quite a scare. They're now expecting a healthy baby girl on Halloween. Things might be just fine, try not to worry too much (though i'm finding that nearly impossible myself) .

  • What about progesterone supplements? Would they be any help at this point?
  • Keep in mind Hcg doubles slower the farther along you are. At 5w6d, all we saw was the sac and barely (REALLY- BARELY) saw the  heart beat.

Hang in there! Def ask about progesterone supps to help support the pg'y.

  • I am not sure about your levels, but please don't worry about not seeing the baby since during my 5th week, we didn't see a baby at all, went back on Friday and saw the baby and a heartbeat.  GOOD LUCK, I am thinking about you, keep us updated.

  • Try to keep thinking positive! Your numbers still look good for how far along you are - take a look at this chart: https://www.americanpregnancy.org/duringpregnancy/hcglevels.html

Also, I have read that once your levels are over 6,000, it can take up to 4 days or longer for your levels to double. At this point, your upcoming ultrasound will be a better indicator of your pregnancy than your hcg levels.

I had hcg levels drawn at around the same time in my pregnancy, and in four days my numbers still did not double. I'm now about 10 1/2 weeks and we've heard the heartbeat via doppler, so please don't worry yourself sick!
  • OH!!!!!! Don't worry!!!! The same thing happened to me. Once your numbers exceed like 6000, they dont double as fast. Here were my numbers, and I am now 28.5 weeks:

    13 DPO = 237
    26 DPO = 10412
    29 DPO = 15735
    32 DPO = 20235

I was definitely concerned, but all turned out well.

Thanks SO much for posting your stats. It's helpful to see data just so I know there is hope.

I appreciate everyone who responded. It is times like these that I need reassurances to keep my chin up and I am thankful this board exists to help.

  • I see that many of you are at the same stage of the game as myself... and I have no idea what these numbers mean? I have completed my first doctor appointment and she did not mention these numbers.  Was she supposed to?

These tests are not normally done unless you have spotting, previous m/c or other issues. Mine are being done because of the u/s not showing a fetus yet. It's just an extra precaution.

You are welcome :) I wish I had known about this site at that stage, so I could ask someone to post their stats. I was FREAKED out. But, it's so true that the numbers dont go up so fast the further along you go. :) Best of luck :)

Thanks again. Just knowing there is a possibly is so reassuring. I was about to lose it! Did you end up doing progesterone at all or it all just worked out?

  • I heard from some of the ladies on SAL that I think once they get over 20,000, they aren't supposed to double anymore! That as long as they are going up..your ok! Your numbers look great to me!!!
