2nd time moms: When will this go away?

Im just wondering if the infamous back and hip pain will lessen significantly immediately after delivery or if it will take awhile while the body gets back to its normal self? TIA!

Re: 2nd time moms: When will this go away?

  • Alot of my hip and back pain was gone a few hours after DD was born. It took me a few days for it fully to go away. I'm hoping it's different this time since I have been seeing a chiropractor this whole pregnancy and have noticed a world of difference.

  • That is a good question! I didn't have much back or hip pain with #1 but I've had it this time. I did have pelvic pain which lasted for weeks after delivery, but that was different.

Hoping this other stuff goes away instantly!

  • I don't remember any back/hip pain after birth. Maybe I was magically free once I lost the huge belly or maybe it was overshadowed by other wonderful pains down below? Not sure.
  • Mine resolved almost immediately after the birth. ?Also, I have had SO much less of it this pregnancy, so there is hope it won't always be a really bad issue.

  • Mine was gone as soon as she was delivered, but I did however get horrible swelling from all of the fluids. It looked really gross!!!

Ditto.  The pain went away, but I was totally unprepared for the massive post-delivery bloating.  Mine was so bad that I couldn't get my huge, swollen arms into the sleeves of the nursing top I brought to the hospital.  Fun times.

  • Mine was almost totally gone within a few days of giving birth. My hips were still a bit "loose", but without the pressure of the baby on them, they weren't nearly as sore.

  • My physical therapist said that after you have a baby once, the ligaments are still likely going to be loose. And, that's what makes you have the back, hip and pelvic pain. She said that the best thing to do is wait a couple years between kids so that you have time to build strength up. She said that she sees women who have had 4 kids in 5 years and that they basically have no ligaments left. So, "of course they're in pain!" But, at least the pain goes away within a few weeks after delivering most of the time.
