Nicholas started with a cough about 2 weeks ago. Kind of sounded like he just smoked a pack of cigarettes. Kind of wet. So I took him to the Pedi. No fever, acting fine, eating, nose not running. They told me (2 weeks ago) that the cough has to do with his reflux and they upped his reflux meds cause he weighs more than he did when he was first put on the meds. Okay so the cough continued and 2 weeks later (this past Wed) I took him again. I am visiting family in NY and just wanted to take him to see if anything was wrong- just to be safe. Again they say it was his reflux and that he'll grow out of it. Listened to his chest and lungs. Everything was fine. Again no fever, acting fine, eating.
Today (2 days later) he's got runny nose, cough is worse and he's congested- you can totally feel it when you have your hand on his back. I took him to my Pedi from when I was a child (my whole family been going to this Dr for over 30 years). He said DS is congested and put him on Amoxocillin.
So now do you think I should switch Pedi's because twice I took him and twice they said reflux and it ended up being somethin more?
Re: would you switch pedis?
That would bother me too. Hopefully you can find a better one. Motherly instincts are there for a reason.
GL and I hope LO is feeling better.
You have to do what you feel comfortable with.
In my opinion it sounds like the pedi was telling the truth about the cough. DS has it and now he FAKES it too! It's like this noise he likes to make but sometimes I know it is related to his reflux. Sometimes it sounds wet and thick but it is not because there is anything going on in his lungs.
Perhaps, the cold is a secondary issue. The cough started 2 weeks ago - if your child was sick two weeks ago - it would not have taken 2 weeks for the rest of the sickness to come on. It sounds to me like the acute symptoms he has are a coincidence or he/you picked something up perhaps at the last pedi visit ;-)
As I said, in the end you have to do what you feel is right.
I agree. I think the cold is a secondary problem.
Personally I wouldn't use either of them. Why does the ped think he's getting reflux? Are you nursing? did he have you do an elimination diet? And then I would be even more annoyed with the other for pushing antibiotics. Most colds are viruses. How does he know your baby has a bacterial infection?
