sign language

i was wondering if anyone has any experience with baby sign language, my dd is 10.5 months and been trying to teach her sl for a few weeks now. she finally is doing more which i am beyond thrilled about. at the same time i was teaching her more, i was trying to teach her the sign for milk. but she does more for milk too. what age did your children really pick up sign and how did you go about doing it?thanks

Re: sign language

  • We started around the same age and ds did the sign milk for everything too. We just kept doing the correct sign whenever we gave him more of anything and whenever we gave him milk and a month or so later he got it figured out.

  • We started signing around 6 months.  He finally got the hang of it over the last month or so.  He can now sign more, drink milk and all done.  I need to figure out what will be next. Just stick with it, DC will get it.

  • I started my daughter around 7 or 8 months but she didn't start getting it until she was 10  months. DH and I aren't  proficient with it but so far Izzy can use the sign for milk. What's interesting is that I've noticed that she has made up her own signs for things. She waves when it's time to go to bed and when she wants something she taps her chest and points to what she wants. I would like to start teaching her more. It's definitely helpful and I've noticed that she doesn't cry as much because we're able to communicate a little better. :)
  • They started Alex at daycare around 10 months - he knows more, milk and all done.  Im working hard on thank you right now.
