Question for those who have been induced?

How bad was it? One of the gals in my yoga class is a week away from being induced and she broke down crying in class last night because she doesn?t want to have to experience that. This is my first, so I just don?t know what she is going through?yet anyway. Can I get some feedback from those who have experienced it before?

Re: Question for those who have been induced?

  • I was induced at 41 weeks, and I did not have a bad experience at all. It just took a very long time, I went in to the hospital at 9am on Friday, and had him at 2:44 pm on Saturday. I dont remember that much, being that it was 5 yrs ago, but after I got the Epidural by friday night, the rest was pretty easy. GL

  • I was just induced on Sunday at 7am. I was freaking out leading up to it too. The night before I couldn't stop crying and I totally think that knowing the exact date is a lot scarier! They started with the cervix thinning medicine which is just a pill they place in with their hands. I had to lay in bed for an hour and wait for it to dissolve. Afterwards I walked around the hospital as much as I could to get things going. A few hours later they broke my water, I started feeling the contractions probably about an hour later but was so scared to get the epidural I waited until they get REALLY bad. This ended up being so stupid because it didn't hurt AT ALL! I am terrified of needles and the IV was much worse than the epidural, all you feel is the shot they give you to numb it beforehand. So the epidural made me feel no pain at all until about 1am when I told the nurse I could feel something down there for the first time so I thought something was happening. It wasn't pain, just some pressure. She checked me and his head was "right there" so she called the Dr. About 10 pushes later I had my baby! There really wasn't any pain at all except afterwards when my epidural wore off because I had to get 10 stitches. Yuck. Really all my worrying was for nothing. We are so lucky to have the option of an epidural!!!! Now I think I'll actually go back and do it again! (Someday).

  • I am being induced on Monday and I don't have a story but my sisters both have 3 kids each and were induced on each of them.  They had great experiences with them all.  I think no matter how much you plan for it to go a certain way it probably won't.  My epi didn't work with my DD and it sucked.  I walked in asking for drugs and unfortunately it didn't happen.  I would reassure her that it will all work out and at the end of it all, 1, 2 or 3 dyas of labor is worth a lifetime with a child.
  • It took a long time, and after my water broke the contrax were pretty strong (I didn't realize they were stronger until I had a non-induced birth). But with the epi, it was great.

I felt nothing before they broke my water.

  • your yoga friend need to learn to expect the unexpected and kep her mind open. Honestly in labor and delivery things don't always go as planned. I did not want to be induced or have a c-section. I cried just thinking about both and in the end I got both.

i was induced at 41 weeks 2 days..36 hours worth of cervical ripening agents and then 6 hours of pitocin. baby did not like pitocin so they had to increase the dose very slowly. After all that and my water breaking on it's own I never got past 1cm dilated. So they went in to get him. i am at peace with it all and in the end it went as it was meant to. No use crying over not having things go exactly as planned. In the end I got my beautiful, healthy baby boy out in the safest way possible and exactly as he was meant to come.

That said some women take to induction very well and things go great. You just never know and have to be prepared and open to what comes your way

  • Honestly I don't think it is as bad as any other birth experience, try not to be too scared, I know it's hard not to be tough!   I won't lie-- contractions hurt like a b'itch.. (i hear they are worse with pitocin) my body was not wanting to dialte, i had been almost completely effaced for weeks.. so after all night of hard contractions..  it was heaven once i got the epidural, my body relaxed and i got to a 10 within a few hrs of that and was ready to push..   episiotomy sucked because of my big headed boy, but i would rather that than ripping I guess..

I know everyone has different experiences.. but I really think as long as your body/cervix is showing signs of being ready, it won't be as bad...when ur body isn't really ready yet, its prob gonna be alot longer process..

     good luck!!
