I just received a bunch of onesies that were in store packaging. Do I really need to wash them before the baby wears them? I washed all the 2nd hand clothes because I didn't know what they had previously been washed in, but what about brand new ones from stores?
Re: Why wash brand new clothes?
I wash everything. You never know who reached inside that package to feel the material and got grubby, germy hands all over the onesies. Or even what touched them at the factory level (picture a sick factory worker coughing on them-eww).
But that's just me
This...
It's not that big of a hassle that I would risk it...
yuck
If you don't have enough for a load, just wash one of your loads with baby detergent and throw the onesies in
Good points. I'll wash them. I was just hesitant because it's not enough to do a special wash, but I might get some more clothes at my shower tomorrow, or I could wait until the baby's born and throw them in with his other clothes when he dirties enough for a load of wash. I guess I could always throw my own clothes in there, but I love the smell of my non-baby detergent.
Definitely wash them! ?One time I bought new sheets and just put them on my bed straight out of the package (I was in college at the time, so also lazy) ?:) ?and I woke up the next day covered in a horrible rash. ?I thought I had chicken pox - but it turned out to just be a reaction from the packaging!!
You never know what can happen - so yes, definitely wash everything before it touches your baby! ?:)?
I was sooooo thinking this!...
The fabric is treated with nasty chemicals in new clothes, towels, sheets, etc....including formaldehyde, which is a carcinogen.
Plus warehouse conditions are often quite disgusting - mice, roaches, etc, crawling all over your soon-to-be-packaged baby clothes.
I wear underwear before washing it.
OMG. No. Roach eggs in the vagina.
LMAO!
I don't worry about germs and dirt. However you don't know if your baby is allergic to some of the chemicals. I myself am severely allergic to one of the chemicals that is commonly used. When I was a baby my parents put an outfit on me without washing it and I broke out in a rash that was like a chemical burn. I cried for days. I hardly doubt you want to deal with that.
