My Clementine who is 3 months got her first tooth on Monday, I can't believe it! Now I feel all bad for getting frusterated when she was all crabbysunday-monday.
Anyway, now since she has a tooth do I start brushing her teeth daily? My thoughts are is she is too young for toothpaste (or is she?) so do I just brush with water then? I want to get her into the routine of good dental health, I just thought I wouldn't have to deal with this for awhile...at least until she was eating foods and such, you know?
Re: Got a tooth already! Dental Advice Needed....
Just like you, my child got a tooth early too. At around 14 weeks. My pedi said NO toothpaste, even at a year now we still use just water. You can buy soft bristle toothbrushes for babies, or you can just gently wipe the tooth off with a rag (another suggestion from my pedi)
Oh teething - so fun! Olivia got 2 at 5 months, just got her third and is working on some more!
We started brushing her teeth and gums as soon as she got them. Every dentist we talk to recommends starting right away because it gets them into the habit, which will make brushing time easier later on. Plus, it's never too early to start taking care of the pearly whites!
We do use toothpaste though, and get mixed advice about that. We use the Oral B baby toothpaste...no flouride or anything like that. To me, it makes brushing SO much easier....Olivia LOVES getting her teeth brushed, and I think the yummy taste is part of it. We just use a tiny bit, not even pea sized.
