Those who breastfeed AND bottlefeed/pump...

Can you recommend the best bottles to avoid nipple confusion? I just finished the big stuff on my registry and want to add bottles, nipples, pacifiers, etc.?

  • DS isn't picky. I use the nipples that came with the Medela pump and Nuk nipples.  He takes both with no problems.

  • I also use the Nuk brand and she does very well with it!
  • My Lo isn't picky either. I use the Medela nipples, and the platex ones that come with the drop ins.

  • my recommendation would be to not put bottles (or diapers) on your registry. I made that mistake, got a ton of Dr. Browns and then DS hated them!!!! I have no idea where some came from so I cant return them.

I also have a basket full of different bottles because DS was so picky. And I like that I got a bunch of different types of diapers to try out and see what worked.

That being said I have heard good things about the "breastflow" bottles.

  • We use the Playtex Vent air and DD doesn't seem to mind them
  • Born Free works well for us.

  • DD has never had a problem with the nipples that go with the Playtex drop-ins.
  • DD will take anything but loves the soothie bottle nipples and playtex nipples, but she will eat out of anything

  • Avent = fail

    Dr. Brown = fail.

Playtex Advanced (wide nipple) = semi success.

Breastflow by First Years = huge success!

  • DD takes anything - we use Born Free, Dr. Browns, Avent and Born to Grow - and has never had a problem going between breast and bottle
  • We use what came with our pump and Breastflow. I haven't tried the others I got tho. But my DS seems to like anything.

  • Dr.Browns

But, my LC told me, you want anything the shape of those nipples, and never use the pacifiers with the flat side because it causes serious nipple confusion.

  • I haven't had a problem with nipple confusion. LO has taken a bottle since week 1 and has always used a paci. I use Medela bottles/nipples and a random assortment of pacis.

  • We use the Nuby non-drip bottles and DS takes them with no problem.
  • I did not give LO a bottle until he was seven weeks old and when the time came he got a Dr Brown's bottle. As another poster identified I would not register for a ton of bottles, pacifiers, nipples, etc. We have purchased EVERY pacifier at Buy Buy Baby, Target, and Babies R Us and LO will not take one. Caution with registering for diapers as well as we we tried three different brands before finding one that worked for our LO.
