I was totally unprepared as we had a C-section after 22 hours of labor when Noah was transverse and not coming down....
I feel pretty decent to be honest... my incision is teeny right below my bikini line and doesn't hurt or feel uncomfortable at all. I think the worst thing is how swollen I am from the waist down... it's making it awkward to do anything.
I have been taking my motrin and percocet religiously as instructed... just wanted to know if you could give any insight as to how long recovery is? I know it's different for everyone... but now we're plannign on setting up everything downstairs when we go home so I don't have to go up and down the stairs much...
Any advice would be much appreciated! I feel like I did a ton of reading and research on vaginal birth... and well none of C-sections so I feel really lost!
TIA
Re: Mama's who have had C-sections....???
I was totally unprepared for a c-section as well. The worst part for me was just the pain of clothes rubbing up against my incision and the area between my belly button and incision, it was sooo sensitive. I had to wear my DH's sweatpants for weeks because I needed something that I could hike up that high. Same with underwear, I had to go buy some major granny panties! Definitely send someone out to get you some!
I think it took a good 6-8 weeks before I started feeling more like myself and without too much pain. I don't remember having too much issue with going up and downstairs, I just took it slow and steady. We kept the pack n play with changing table downstairs so we didn't have to go upstairs to change him.
I had a scheduled c-section. Mine was very different considering Max was in the NICU and then transferred to Children's 2 days later so my adrenline made me move more than I should have. With that said, my recommendation is to make sure you get up and walk. Don't over do it, but walk. Granny panies are much along with light cotton dresses. Those are nice since they won't push up against your incision. Continue to stay on top of your medicine. Let people do things for you. I would say that I started feeling much better and more like myself around the 4-6 week mark.
Just remember to don't over do it like I did. Also, don't be surprised if the incision site and area around it is numb. Totally normal. No one told me that so I freaked out. Good luck!!!

I had what I thought was a very easy recovery from my c-section. Like you, I long planned on a vaginal delivery and had no idea what to expect. Everyone else has given great advice, here's mine:
1. Walk but don't overdo. It's amazing how much walking will help.
2. Don't try to do a lot of stairs. I came downstairs in the morning and stayed down there all day for about 2 weeks. Went back up at bedtime. That helps a lot, minimizing stairs.
3. Take your pain meds when you're supposed to.
4. Definitely, let people do things for you! Don't lift anything heavy.
5. Don't start to overdo at 2 weeks pp when you start feeling better. It will just set you back.
6. Wear loose-fitting clothes like everyone said! I actually wore maternity panties for about a month, huge help.
I was feeling pretty darn good by about 2 weeks pp. Hopefully you will feel great in no time!

Like you, I also was totally unprepared for a c-section. I had planned to go all natural with no meds.
It was about 4 weeks till I felt relatively normal again. I agree with the PP...high waisted comfortable clothes were a MUST! You have no idea how bad underwear rubbing against your incision can hurt!
Just thinking about this brought back memories of how I used to yell at my husband for making me laugh because it hurt so bad...which of course made me laugh harder because I was yelling at him for making me laugh.
Just take your meds. Don't think it makes you wimpy for having to take the strong stuff. And ask for help, and you will feel 100% in no time!
I forgot about this part!!! SO TRUE!

Oh yea... I figured that out real quick!!!!
I had an emergency c after 15 hours of labor. Surgery was the last thing I wanted, and I did not concern myself with learning about recovery prior to delivery. I was up walking the minute they let me out of bed, took my meds around the clock. Adding a gas pill like gas x and a stool softener for a week or so is also a good idea. I switched to motrin once I got home, and never really had too much pain.
The swelling is normal, and it gets much worse before it gets better. It is caused by the body trying to get rid of the fluids you retained during pregnancy and the massive fluids they give you during the c section. 10-14 days is usually the norm, and you will have normal feet again.
Do follow the no driving and no stairs rule for the full two weeks. I felt pretty good and decided to clean and do laundry after a week. I did the stairs too many times and had heavy bleeding and cramping the next day. Made DH do the laundry after that!
Good luck to you! It does get better every day.
Yep, laughing and sneezing hurt! Ouch!
