What were you DH's counts at in order for them to do ICSI??
I was told at my consult yesterday at it is not up to me if we can do ICSI or not - they will determine by the count on the day of the ER whether or not to do ICSI - is this normal??
Also she said DH count was normal - when he gave his SA yesterday - count was 20 million and motility 50% - she said if the numbers where like that the day of the ER that they probably most likely will not do ICSI - does that sound right to you??
Also - DH morph is 7% - which is why I wanted to do ICSI in the first place. What were your RE qualifications for ICSI??
Re: IVF girls - ICSI questions
Clomid M/C 8 weeks 2/08 *IVF #1-DD born 3/09
*Surprise BFP-T18 baby lost at 13w 1/10 *FET #1-DS born 2/11
DH was at the low end of normal. With IVF #1, RE did not WANT to do ICSI, she basically said it was a waste of money for us. I, on the otherhand, couldn't imagine NOT doing it, b/c I had the horrible idea that nothing (or minimal) would fert if left to be done naturally. RE eventually complied, more to keep my stress level down (she was big about that), and we ICSI'd 1/2 and did the other 1/2 natural.
Turns out we had a slightly better fert rate when done naturally than with ICSI. With IVF #2, we did all natural.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
I don't remember what his count was, but we did ICSI to improve our chances. DH's counts were always great.
The RE said it would be best.
You are sooooo close to starting!!!! I am excited for you!

Mine does too. DH's numbers were really low (sorry, don't remember the number) at all SAs, so we would have done it either way.
His numbers were extremely low..that was our infertility factor...so ICSI was done of course..but I know that the doctors usually do half ICSI half not during any cycle at our clinic, except for extremely low counts just ICSI then..
Why would a doctor not want to try the better alternative??? sounds weird to me..doesn't he want you to have the best possible outcome, for his clinic numbers as well???
ICSI is standard practice at my RE's office. Our counts and motility were generally good; his morph was around that 7-8 range though. We were told that his sperm should be able to fertilize my eggs w/o ICSI. I really think adding ICSI and AH for IVF #3 is what made the difference. I'd insist on ICSI or find a doc that will do it.
This. Although DH did have borderline numbers for morph.
This. DH's counts were always very high with no issues and we still did ICSI just to up our chances.
Good luck!
I was told the same thing as you. The embriologist (sp) would decide that day based on what he saw weather to ICSI or not. I never got counts, but they did ICSI.
The count was 40 million/ml. Motility 40%.
Morph lower than 4% was the indication for ICSI at my RE. We were at 1% so we did ICSI. We still could have opted out of it that day, but it was the strong recommendation of both the RE and the embryologist.
I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.
And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!
