Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Am I being overly sensitive?

This isn't going to be an issue anymore because DS's last day at this sitter was yesterday because she is due any day with baby # 2.

Background, we went to HS with the sitter and her husband, and I really like both of them and they took great care of DS and we never had issues.

So I picked up DS from the sitter yesterday, and sitter/her daugther/DS were outside in the driveway.  DS still has his PJ shirt on, no shorts and just a diaper.  His legs/hands/feet are all dirty.  DS scoots to get around, he does not walk or crawl.  She was letting him scoot around in their blacktop driveway.  Intitially his socks and PJ shorts were on, but they got blacktop all over them, so she took them off and just let him scoot in his diaper with his legs rubbing against blacktop.  So now the sides of his legs are all red and irritated.  I am not sure if she was letting him play in dirt but his fingernails were a mess.

Later she asks if he has ever had a popsicle before, I had told her no he hasn't.  Come to find out they made popsicles, but basically it was just frozen kool aid, and gave it to him.  I am not sure how much though, and when I had told her no we have never give him one she was like "oh, well he had it today."  In the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal, but I would be asking parents before I would give a 13 month old kool aid.  He rarely gets juice, definately don't want him having kool aid.

I didn't say anything to her and I let it all slide, but I was a little less than happy when I got home, but at least he is still in one piece.

Re: Am I being overly sensitive?

  • I would be irritated at seeing my child scraping himself up on a hardsurface. Like oyu said at least it washis last day and you don't have to worry about that anymore.

  • I don't think giving him a homemade popsicle is a big deal.  She is just trying to have fun.  What a fun day to have popsicles and playing outside on a summer day.  I would have common sense to not put a baby on a driveway, grass would have been my choice.  Don't stress over it.
  • The driveway thing would irritate me I think.  The popsicle thing wouldn't in the least.  I'm happy when my DCP helps my son to experience new things.

  • Thank goodness it was his last day. The blacktop thing would really irritate me. The popsicle thing would, too, although I don't think it would irritate other people as much. We don't let DD have too much sugar because she gets so wired.
