1st Trimester

Just got back from the ER =(

I started bleeding today. It was the most horrible 4 hours of my life until they finally wheeled me in to the U/S room and confirmed that I still have a baby and the baby's heart is beating. I'm done bleeding now, but I'm terrified to move. They couldn't give me ANY explanations as to why I was bleeding or anything. All the doctor could say was "1 in 10 pregnancies end in miscarriage, right now you have a viable pregnancy".

I should be happy, but I'm nothing but scared. I did get to see the little peanut for the first time and see/hear the heartbeat (118bpm). Anyone else have a similiar story?

Thanks.

  • Oh no!  I don't have any personal stories except a friend of mine had this happen and has a healthy 5 month old now!  Thoughts and prayers your way.  Keep us posted!

  • I have had a lot of bleeding.  Even bleeding with clotting.  My baby is just fine.  Bleeding is somewhat common.

  • I've been spotting on and off since about 7 weeks and the LO looks just fine... I'm just the one falling apart! So keep your chin up and just take care of yourself!

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this, but I'm glad the baby's okay.  I've been spotting for about 2.5 weeks, with cramping 1.5 weeks ago.  We had a good ultrasound last week, but I still haven't stopped worrying.

  • I had this happen to me at 5 1/2 weeks and they did the same thing....did an ultrasound and were able to see the heartbeat and I was sent home.  I still was worried, but felt much better after hearing the doctor tell me that everything looked ok.  I continued spotting for 3 weeks and I think (fingers crossed) it's finally stopped.  I have another ultrasound tomorrow just to make sure everything's still ok and I have to say I'm a little nervous.  Hopefully everything will be ok with your little one, I've heard it's pretty common to have spotting during early pregnancy.  Good luck!

  • A more positive way for him to word it would have been, "About 50% of women in the first trimester have some kind of bleeding, and most of the time it is not a cause for concern." ;)

    I hope everything stays OK!

  • I am so sorry you went through that today!  :sends baby sticky dust your way:

  • Well the news could have been worse, just glad to hear there is still a baby with a hb in there!  A lot of girls bleed for sometimes no reason so try to keep that in mind.  I know its hard!

  • I bled bright red and heavy from 5 - 7 weeks with Jace.

    They never found out why.

He's totally healthy!  (he's the one in my siggy on the left getting up to run away.)

    It sucks.

    Hang in there.

The HB is the BEST reassurance you can have right now so focus on that!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • You might have a subchorionic hematoma. I have one and have had 6 really scary bleeding episodes. Thankfully it hasn't affected my baby at all, and most hematomas are harmless.  But I do understand your fear.  Try not to worry - bleeding is more common than you think, and most of them dont even affect babies.
  • Just try to stay postive:) And just try and rest.
  • I don't have a story, but glad to hear that things seem to be good now! GL!
  • This happened to me on Tuesday.  Went in for sonogram, and the sac and baby were there with a HB of 168.  They couldn't tell me what caused the bleeding, either.  (I had gone for a jog that day and was very active all afternoon cleaning the house.)  They put me on light pelvic rest for four weeks (to get the fetus to 12 weeks).  So, no jogging, horseback riding, sex, or other jarring movements for the next four weeks.  I know it's hard, but try to stay positive.  Right now you ARE pregnant, and that babies heart is beating nice and strong.  Hoping things go well...
