Anyone else have a non-napper?

My wild man is a non-napper!  He may sleep for 10 or 15 minutes at a time and that's it (he does however STTN at his age so that's our trade off).  We're in an unconventional child care situation in that DH takes him to work on the boat (except when they go offshore, then DS is with a friend of ours).  I'm trying to give DH plenty of ideas to keep him busy - he hates to be kept still.  Other than the play gym and tummy time do you ladies have any suggestions for a two month old?

Re: Anyone else have a non-napper?

  • holy crap. i would've died at 2 months if henry were a non-napper.

pretty much at 2 months it was either tummy time on the activity mat, swing or on a walk. would DH wear him/would he tolerate it?

  • DS was like that around 2 months. Now he naps 2-2.5 hours - there is hope! I'm not sure what may have changed it, but sometimes DS wakes up and can be soothed back to sleep. Usually with just a paci but sometimes if I know he has not napped long enough I'll rock him back to sleep. Maybe your DH can try that?

For play time, just the play gym, bouncer and swing. I'm not sure if he has room for much baby gear. GL! I know it can be hard!

  • I have considered posting the same thing for the past 2 months... DD does NOT nap consistently.  She does sleep through the night (8:30pm-7:30am) but fights naps.  She catnaps after eating and in the car, but rarely a "real" nap (more than 20 minutes).  She absolutely exhausts me!  But I know I shouldn't complain since she STTN.

  • DD took an afternoon nap for about a month around 7 months old, but she didn't start taking a nap most days until she was 12+ months.  Before 7 months, she would doze a bit on her changing table (safely ;)), and that was it.  She just didn't need additional sleep, she was fine -- she made it until midnight and then STTN.  The concept of children "dropping naps" is foreign to me, as DD had none to drop, and I was *thrilled* when she went from 0 to 1 on most days!  I don't have any advice, just empathy!

  • Jocelyn has always been a napper, but when she is awake she HAS to be entertained. At that age she lived in her FP Rainforest Bouncy Seat. Also, the Bumbo was good to sit her up in so she could have a different view of the world.
