2nd Trimester

New Symptom...any suggestions?

So this week I have begun to get Restless Leg Syndrome.  When I try to go to bed...my legs feel like they can't stop moving.  It is awful!

Has anyone had this and found something that worked well for them?

Re: New Symptom...any suggestions?

  • I just can't fall back to sleep when I get up to pee.... so I get about 5 hours a night. Try a pillow i have them all around me.

  • I have/had RLS prior to pregnancy... I was on a medication for it but it isn't tested on pregnant women, and I wasn't comfortable taking it so, I stopped when I got the BFP...

What helps me is that I stretch or do yoga (leg focused) and that helps... also a warm bath helps as well... I spoke to my doc, and she did say that if it does get bad, I can take one of my pills... I have only had to do it twice thus far...

I hope that helps with your sleep...  I know how frustrating RLS is!

  • I have this problem too and I have found that taking tylenol about a half an hour before I go to bed helps significantly. I also do some calf stretches. I feel so much more at ease after this. I hope that helps!

I have it too, but have had it for years.  It's getting worse with pregnancy :(

Make sure you get adequate exercise.  Walking really helps.  I believe magnesium, potassium and calcium are all said to help.  I tend to use heat on my legs when they're bad and I have DH rub them down.  Before pregnancy, he's rub them with icy hot and it felt great.  I'm not sure that's safe, so maybe try a nice peppermint lotion.  He rubs to the point where it hurts a little, but it works.

Good luck - I know how frustrating it is

  • Thanks for all the ideas!  I'm going to try a few out tonight and see how it goes.  ::crossing fingers::
  • Try deep knee bends too!  It works for my dad, even though he isn't pregnant :).
