DD uses hers when she sleeps and I'm in no hurry to have her stop... whenever she is ready. It makes her happy and it doesn't?inconvenience?us in any way (she spits it out during the night but she doesn't mind)
I'll reconsider all this when she turns 2 and go from there but at this point it wouldn't bother me at 2 years old either.?
DS still uses his to sleep. It never leaves his crib. DD uses one all the time and he is okay with it and does not try to take it. He just knows that it is hers and his stays in bed.

this is good to know and was my big fear - he only uses his to sleep and I didn't want him to start taking the baby's
we are leaning toward letting him keep it as I am already weaning him from bfing and I don't want to take everything away from him at once

Yep, and they even use the exact same pacifier. We just started telling him from Day 1 that it was hers, and his is for "night night only".
DS uses his for naps/bedtime and I wasn't about to try to take that away with a new baby coming - esp. because baby would have a paci also. Just not a battle I felt was worth it during this transition time. I don't mind that he still has his paci and we will work on weaning it later, when life is not so crazy.
ETA: like pp, DS understands that the baby's paci is not his. When he finds it laying around, he will bring it to the baby and put it on his head. Too cute.
DD1 still uses one quite bit. We've discussed it several times with both our Pedi and Dentist and neither of them sees a big issue with it. Would I like her to use it less, YES but at this point, I just can't deal with trying to take it away. We are transitioning her to a new room in a week or two. She will be 2 about a month and half after DD2 arrives and we will revisit the issue at her 2 year check up with her Pedi. He advises to wait and tackle it at 2.
I was wondering about this too. DD only uses hers in the crib and the car. But if she sees one around (during playgroup or something) she will try to put it in her mouth. I am a little worried that she will do that with the new baby too. I plan to buy a different brand but I'm not sure that will help much. I think she might be too young still to understand that it belongs to the baby.
I might try to take the car one away so that it's for sleep-time only. Maybe that will make it more clear for her?
