Success after IF

RP: WWYD regarding RE

Warning: Long Post!

I'm in the 2ww right now but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a BFN since my lining was pretty thin.

I had to go straight to an RE because of my condition (basically my pituitary doesn't work due to a tumor that was removed).  I found him through a very good friend of my family.  He is the nicest man.  I know his family -- have had lunch with his wife and socialized with his son.

He is doing everything he can for me.  He is also the director of the lab where I'm doing my IVF.

When he found out that he doesn't take my insurance he told me not to worry about it and is just taking the copay and whatever the insurance gives him.

When he found out that my insurance doesn't cover my IVF he literally told me he wouldn't charge me any lab fees.  So I only pay his fees -- which are less than half of what I would be paying if he charged me all the fees.  At any other place I would pay probably four times the price for one IVF.

However, I'm not pregnant.  I looked up the SART rates (chart, whatever it is) and the figures aren't great.  I might just be blinded by Cornell which has close to a 60% sucess rate...

I live in NYC so I have acess to any doctor I want... but I feel horrible going to another doctor.  I can't see myself asking for my chart.  This doctor is so good to me, spends so much time with me, does everything for me, I can't see going to some generic person to whom I'm just a number.

How should I approach all this?

    Was this your first IVF?

I think sometimes it's easy to doubt when the first one doesn't work, but honestly, IVF is a crapshoot.  You never know why a great cycle doesn't work and a crappy one does.

Is there anything in your protocol that you're uncomfortable with?  Maybe you could get a second opinion, but I'm not sure one failed IVF (without underlying issues with the clinic or protocol) is reason to change in this situation.

Good luck and I hope you're wrong about this cycle!

I'm not even sure what IVF this is.  I did one full IVF which was a BFN.  Then I did another retreival but my doctor was worried about OHSS and a think lining so they froze the embroyos at Day 3 and prepared me for a FET.  My lining refused to get thick enough after 2 months so they cancled the FET and started me on a fresh IVF.  Then something went wrong with the trigger so they collected no eggs.  However, they transfered two embryos that were frozen from the second fresh IVF.  I'm in the midst of the 2ww with that.

I'm not the easiest case :).

Hmm, I think I'd look for a second opinion.  OHSS happens, but seems like there are a lot of interferences.
