2 month appt and percentiles

So, I'll start by staying I am little irritated about my pedi's percentiles she gave us today. It was her "2 month" appt even though she is 11 weeks old. She was 10 lbs 11 oz and 22.75 inches. She told us she was 25th percentile for both. DH being the good nurse he is didn't quite believe it and when we got home looked it up. For 2.5 months she is 50th percentile for both height and weight. I told him to check for 3 months and sure enough it was 25th. With her being for young it kind of irks me she rounded up like that and it ended up making us worried about her height/weight.

She is right on track with everything else. She was impressed with her leg strength. Natalie has a little patch of hair on her lower back that the pedi said sometimes is cause for concern for an under developed spine but she thinks she is just fine. I had to remind her that we have Mediterranean descent from DH (Lebanese) and she agreed that is what it is.

Re: 2 month appt and percentiles

  • Glad she is doing well!  Our drs office uses a computer program so it calculates it based on their age not the specific month.  I would not worry too much about percentiles though :-)  They will go up and down anyway.  DS used to be at the top and now is at the bottom but drs aren't worried since he is active and eating.
Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!

  • Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the percentiles too much either.

My pedi told us anything between 10th & 90th is considered "normal", and that their more concerned about the growth curve on the chart than they are about the actual percentiles.
  • I would try not to be concerned if she really was 25th percentile, Ethan was there for a long time but consistently growing and developing!  I would be really irritated that she miscalculated according to her age though!!

This exactly! Baby Charlie has been under 10% weight for about as long as I can remember, and they don't worry about it because he's still showing consistent growth.
