Moms of 6-8 week babies about sleep

Do you have your baby on a sleep schedule yet? Especially at night? Around 6-8 weeks people usually start thinking about a schedule for their baby. I'm especially interested in bedtime. I read articles about getting baby on a scheduled bedtime routine. I read about trying to get them to sleep through the night, but what exactly is sleeping through the night?

What time do you put your 6-8 week old to bed for the night? How many times does he wake up during the night to feed? What time does your baby get up for the day? Also, how do you get your baby to sleep? Are you following a bedtime routine now?

Thanks!

  • I'm still following LO's cues. He's sort of starting to get into his own pattern though. He tends to go to bed around ten for the night and sleeps till about 3:30. He'll eat and then sleep for another three to four hours. I really don't have any sort of schedule in play yet. But I will say that I try to do a diaper change, feeding, and then bed.

  • Loading the player...
  • He typically falls asleep (I nurse him to sleep) around 11.  Sleeps until 2 and then again until 5 (up to eat at those two times).  Then he often (like 4 out of 5 days) sleeps in his swing until 8:30-9:00 A.M.

I really want to start a bedtime routine that involves him going down earlier at night in the next 3-4 weeks.  He's up waaaay to late!

  • we start the bedtime routine anywhere from 845 to 10pm, depends on how her feedings went that day or what we are doing. We feed her, then bathe her, get her in her pjs and put her in the crib. She likes to watch her seahorse, so we turn that on and put in her pacifier. She goes right to sleep... she'll usually wake up around 5 with a dirty diaper so we'll change her and put her back down. We let her sleep until 630 or 730, depends on what day it is and who has to take her to daycare that morning.
  • I don't plan on scheduling unless we encounter serious sleep issues. Right now he goes to bed between 9 and 11, usually wakes once to eat around 2-3 am, and gets up for the day between 6 and 7.

  • At 6 weeks we started to give the boys a bath around 7-7:30.  Then we feed them in a dim room with quiet music.  They aren't sleeping all night by any means!  Sometimes they wake up together at 3, then sleep from 4-7.  Last night they were up at separate times... exhausting!
  • we have had them on a flexible schedule since day 1 at home. they eat approx every 3 hours- when they wake up from napping.... and go down for naps drowsy but awake.

Last night they STTN for the first time- (sort of 2nd time, the night before was a little earlier- 5:30am... too early for me!).  they are 8w.  DS1 also STTN at 8w following the same schedule.... thanks to Baby Wise.

  • Our first night home we put him to bed at 10pm and he's gone to bed at that time ever since.  In the beginning he was waking up every 3-4 hours for feedings.  At 3 weeks he started STTN at 6 hours then going back down for an additional 3-4 hours after his bottle.  Now he's sleeping 9-10 hours straight.  He takes about a 2 hour nap around 10-11am and another hour/2 hour nap around 5-6pm....sometimes he'll take 10 minute cat naps throughout the day.  His feeding schedule is every 2-3 hours during the day and he eats 4oz.

ETA:  He goes down by me swaddling him, feeding him a bottle in a dark silent room, and I lay him down either completely out or half asleep.  We do baths in the morning.

  • We do a bath around 9 then last bottle of the night of about 4-5 oz. then asleep by 11.  She has been sleeping 5-7 hrs. after that which has been heaven!  We try to be flexible since everyday is different.  We also just switched formula today due to spitting up issues.
  • LO gets his last bottle of 6oz at 6ish we play for awhile then he gets a bath at 7ish.  Then around 7:30 I'll top him off if he wants it with 2 oz and in bed at 7:45/8.  He won't wake but may start to fuss at some point in the night.  Usually between 3 and 5 and i'll go in and give him his paci and he stops fussing and then wakes up for the day at 7/ 7:30. This has been going on for 2 weeks now and I feel very lucky.

Oh yeah I forgot.. I rock him for about ten minutes until he's really drowsy and i then lay him down awake with his paci and turn on his rainforest music thing in his crib and he's out!
