I recently moved and had to find a new dr. for this pregnancy. I saw him for my 1st prenatal appointment and liked him. He is the only dr. in his practice but said he has a dr. cover for him when he is gone on vacation. I am 7 weeks and the past 2 days have been throwing up about every 15 minutes (whether I've eaten or had anything to drink or not). I am obviously getting dehydrated and am getting no nutrition from food. The same thing happened with my 1st pregnancy and I was prescribed zofran. I called my dr's office and asked if I could get some Zofran called in. She said he is out of town, that they do not have access to a physician until Thurs. but that I can see his sub Thurs. morning then she can write the RX. It seems weird that I have to go in and see a dr. to get a script written when I've already seen my dr. It seems like this practice may be a huge hassle when he's out of town. Is this normal in a single Dr. practice? If so, I may be on the hunt for a new dr. My DH is so worried I am going to end up in the ER like last time if I wait until Thurs.
Re: Problem re: dr. & meds...is this normal?
I've personally never been a patient in a 1 doctor practice. It sounds like you need medical attention now and that waiting until Thursday will not be good for you. If it were me I would find another practice but even so you might not be able to get in right away. The ER might be your best bet right now.
Sorry you are going through this!
That's ridiculous, and I wouldn't be able to tolerate it. There should be someone available for situations that arise when the doctor is not there.
If it were me, I would probably go to an urgent care, explain the situation, and they can give you IV fluids if you need them, and an Rx for Zofran to last awhile til you can see either your regular OB and get a new doctor.
