Once Upon a Child type stores

I have never bought or sold anything at any of these places but a friend of mine swears by it.  My first instinct when we want to get something is to go buy new, but it makes sense to recycle things like baby gear and toys and gently used clothes.  Do any of you have experiences to share?  Im specifically thinking of purchasing toys for my 2yo there instead of going new.

  • I've bought some clothes from these type of stores. I've never bought toys b/c I could never find anything good.

  • my mom gets Carson clothes there but she takes time to pick through everything to find cute/nice stuff.
  • I get almost all of Rylee's clothes at once upon a child. We dont normally get toys there but we have gotten a few. I love the store but I dont recomend selling stuff there they dont give you much Craigs List is much better IMO

  • I've bought some toys and books there for DS.  I don't see the harm in at least going to look and see if there is anything that you think would be good for your LO.

  • I would totally check out the store to see if there is something I like. I've never gone to one, only because there is none close to my house or office.
  • OUaC is expensive IMO.  I go to a consignment store in town that baets their prices hands down.  I have bought tons of clothes, her swing, books, toys, etc.  I love it - there is ZERO reason to pay full retail price.

Also OUaC also sells a lot of new items, so you can get discoutns on things that are still in their packaging.

Look around - this are franchises, so there will be a lot of variety between the stores.

  • I am the opposite of the other poster.  I have bought toys (b.c I can bleach them) but never clothes.  I can't stand to search thru racks of clothes.
  • We have a few of those stores around where I live, and I love them! Toddlers & babies go through different sizes so rapidly I can't see spending full price or even close to that on new clothes when there are just as nice clothes at the resale shops at more than half that. I don't find much on the toy part though, only have gotten a few things but the clothes is what I go for the most! Anyway we can save money DH is all for it too!
