Dryer Recs ? I need a long-lasting one!!

My low-end dryer (Whirlpool) broke on me this week after only 3 years.  I need to get a new one and am looking in the mid-to-high end range, with the hope that it will last 10 + yrs.  I am hoping to spend under 1,200 (really 1,000 or less), but would go up to $1,600 if it will last for a long time.  What brand and models do you all recommend?  I think I would like steam, but do not really know what that uses.  I also would like to have the dry time = the wash time, which I saw on a number of models, and also have the option of having a rack in the dryer to dry delicate items (not a neccessity).

What do you recommend?

    DH works on appliances and always recommends Whirlpool. But he also really likes the LG ones.
