I think MIL is giving me fleas!

We had a flea infestation at our house for MONTHS, and couldn't figure out why... the cat is indoors only, and we bombed the carpet and they finally went away... MIL came over for dinner last night and I found 2 fleas on me and have like 10 new bites today.

She works at a pet food store, so I'm thinking she brings them with her from work... seriously... How do I bring this to her attention?

They don't bite DH  or her, apparently... but Max and I are covered in bites!

Re: I think MIL is giving me fleas!

  • L, this is like a classic MIL story!  I'm sorry you are getting bitten and I have no advice since it seems impossible for you to ask her to shower and change before she comes over and a pet store is bound to have a few fleas, right?  I'm sorry!  I would make sure you have dinner either outside or in a nuetral location though a resturaunt is unlikely to want fleas either!

  • I think the answer to this really depends on what your relationship with your MIL is like. Can you point it out to your DH and just let him handle it? I'm in favor of letting DH handle MIL situations since I only have to deal with her because of him. :)

  • Can you rub a little Advantage on the back of her neck when she isn't paying attention? J/K this is sory of an awkward situation - I'd probably ask DH to talk to her about it.

  • Oh, god that's totally awkward. DH and I have a rule that blood talks to blood so I'd definitely have DH talk to her. Does she have fleas in her house?

You sew, right? Could you sew a flea collar into something that looks like a necklace of sorts and have her wear it at your house? Stick out tongue

I snorted when I read that!

    Sorry Sad fleas suck!

  • No idea...but thats the greatest mother inlaw title EVER!!

What I might do is lie...say you went to the doc and found out you are allergic to fleas...or Max is and say you now have to ask everybody to be more careful...and just blame the docter

  • I'm sorry...but I find this so funny.  It's a classic MIL story.

I think I'd have dh talk to her, and present it in a "poor Max keeps getting bitten" way.
