Baby Names

How do you feel about the name Jenna?

One of DH's top picks... cute, but ok for an adult? Just a nn or do you view it as a full name?

I'm finally just accepting the fact that we're probably going to have DD#2 and name her after we meet her! ;) I wish we could pick a name, but it's not looking like that's going to happen for absolute sure... and I'm finally ok with that. :) We'll just go in with a list of names we love, still with our top pick in mind, and decide when we see her.

  • I like it. Although some people say it makes them think of Jenna Jameson.

  • I agree with the pp. I think it's pretty, but many... men in particular, will think porn star.

Me too.  I do like Jemma or Gemma.

  • I worried about that at first.. especially having grown up in AZ and Jenna Jameson owning a hot bar out there (while I was in college at least). But then I started thinking, this baby is going to be a different generation. Do you think that would still be an issue? I mean, by the time DD is in middle school, what are the chances that Jenna J will still be so "popular" (or do I have no idea what I'm talking about LOL).

Gemma is/was one of my top names but DH says he really really doesn't like it :(  I keep telling him it's sooo close to Jenna, but he won't budge.

  • I think Jenna is pretty. I like Julie more though Big Smile
  • My SIL is named Jenna and it's a great name for an adult! It fits her perfectly.

I really don't think Jenna Jameson would be a concern. It's a different generation.?

    This.

  • I really like it.  I think it is totally okay for an adult and totally okay as a full name.

  • I know a beautiful woman named Jenna, so in my opinion, I think it works. I'm in the same boat as you, though. I think we'll have to wait to see baby because we can't decide! Good luck!

  • jenna is alright.

    i like julia better :)

  • One of my best friends is named Jenna. I think it's a very pretty name, but I like Julie more. Jenna is not an uncommon name so the Jenna Jameson thing shouldn't be the deciding factor IMO.
  • I really like Jenna.  I think it sounds cute and fun but would also work well for an adult.

  • I love the name Jenna.

No one in your daughters generation will associate Jenna Jameson with your daughter. She's a porn star nobody anyway - long forgotten by then!

  • jenna isnt a bad name,.... but all i think of is porn... jenna jameson.
  • as for the generational thing, her generation wont make the association, but all the people in her life form older generations will....

     even worse i think.

I agree. I don't understand the "people in their generation won't know who ___ is" argument. The people who will most likely hire our kids, teach our kids, and review their applications for school are from OUR generation, not our kids' generation. Our generation's associations matter more than our kids' and their peers' associations.

  • I like it but I do like Jemma or Gemma better!

And I do like Julie more than Jenna--but it is a cute name :)

  • Gemma is really nice- this and Jenna are more unique than Julie. The main character played by Jennifer Garner in "13 Going on 30" is Jenna. Try watching that and see if you like hearing it used on a young girl and her as an adult :)
  • I love Jenna, and would never associate it with the porn star.
  • Love the name Jenna.  That's what I suggested for our next LO, but DH said reminds him too much of the porn star.
  • I really like Jenna and know a couple adults that it fits well. And I at least would never think of Jenna Jameson and I think it would not be an issue at all in her generation.

  • Thanks for the input everyone!

I guess my thing w/ the porn star association is, and maybe I just don't know enough.., but is she even still a porn star? Or a popular one? I just wonder if that would immediately come to mind 5, 10, 20 years from now. It's not like she's that popular (well, maybe in the porn star world, but those people have their own issues then ;)! People still call their kids "Pamela" and she's more in the spotlight and worse, right. But I don't think that immediately when I hear that name.

I guess I had no idea who Jenna Jameson was until I got to college. And now that that "crazy" time in my life is over, she's definitely not the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name.. she's just kind of fading into the background, if that makes sense.. Name association wise, I think of Jenna Bush just as much, or a 5 y.o. adorable little girl I know named Jenna..

Anyway, just a though... I don't even know if I like the name enough to really consider it, just wanted people's opinions on it :)

i didn't grow up when "Debbie Does Dallas" was filmed but somehow I know about it  lol

  • exactly- I am not from Ron Jeremy's or John Holme's generation, but having never seen their "work" I still know who they are somehow.  So the "not-her-generation" argument is silly to me..That being said, if you/your kid doesn't give people reason to associate the names, it will NOT be an issue!

Totally disgaree with the above.  I don't think you should really care about anyone's associations but your own. does it bother you?  Sounds like it does not, so go for it!

I don't really think someone will be looked upon differently because they share a common name with somone.  Seriously?  Not get a job, into a school, or receiving biased treatment because your name is the same as an old porn star?  Ridiculous to me and a sad comment about people if true.
