2nd Trimester

Anyone else lucky enough to have the flu while pregnant?

Ugh! I feel like I'm going to die. I managed to get a Luna bar  and water in for breakfast but now I want to crawl up in a ball and cry. I'm going to the Dr. at 9:30. Any suggestions to help me survive? haha!

Re: Anyone else lucky enough to have the flu while pregnant?

  • I had it a couple weeks ago, except I kept telling myself it was all due to pregnancy, it was only after I got home from my most miserabble day of work ever that I realized I was running a temp of 102!

So sleep is the best advice I can give and a tylenol!

  • Yep, I had the flu around week 13.  (And yes I had the flu vaccine but DH was lucky enough to find a strain of the flu that wasn't covered on last year's vaccine - ug!)  I had just gotten over m/s and then I was coughing so bad that I ended up drying heaving constantly  :P

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • I had it last year while pregnant, and it turned into pneumonia... not fun at all!!  I pretty much stayed in bed and my hubby brought me snacks and drinks.  Just take care of yourself and don't try to get back to normal too fast.
  • I got it in my first trimester and it was awful.  I couldn't keep anything down, especially not water.  Try sipping on 7up when you can, slowly.  Then try crackers.  My Dr recommended Pedialyte which seemed to be ok too.  Rest up and feel better soon!
  • chicken soup / crackers

    ginger ale

    Sad

    hope you feel better soon!

  • i had a stomach virus for a week and a half recently and it wasn't pretty...I pretty much just kept myself hydrated and rested...hope you feel better!

  • I read the subject and almost started crying at how miserable that must be.  I'm so sorry!  Resting is probably the best thing you can do.  Maybe some Gatorade.

  • I've been sick for the last week and I'm finally starting to feel better. I'm only allowed to take Tylenol, Robitussin, and cough drops. I spent most days sleeping. Over the weekend, the coughing and stuffiness made it hard to sleep, but I've had better luck sleeping by propping myself up with extra pillows.

Also, you might want to wear panty shields. My coughing was so bad that I would get little dribbles of pee. Embarrassed You may be too early for this to happen, but it's better to be safe.

  • Ick, I had it when I was 10 weeks along with my first...it was awful so I feel your pain. Tylenol, fluids, and sleep. That's the only advice I have. Just have to let it run it's course!

  • I did with my last pregnancy.  It sucks.  Rest, rest, rest.  If your coughing is keeping you from sleeping, talk to your OB about an Rx cough suppressant.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • Thank you everyone. My OB said the same as you ladies. Rest, fluids, and tylenol. On a good note, the baby's heartbeat was 150 and easy to find. Yea baby!
