Was it successful? My baby is frank breech and we go back to the doctor in 2 weeks and will have to decide if we want them to do the ECV if she hasn't already turned on her own by then.
I had one done with my second born, and it was successful. I had it done around 37.5 weeks, and he stayed head down and was born on his due date. I had a really good vaginal delivery with my 1st born, and was hoping to avoid the c-section if it all possible.
It was a good experience for me, and not painful at all, but I think that is likely because it worked, and had he not turned I imagine it would have been much more painful. It was done in L&D, I was monitored closely, as was the baby, I was given an IV of muscle relaxer, but no pain meds. Once the procedure was done, we continued to be monitored for several hours, and then headed home to wait for me to go into labor and have the baby.
I think the procedure worked for me because: 1. luck, 2. it was my 2nd child so my ab muscles were loser than a 1st time mom, and 3. he was an average size baby (7.5 lbs when born).
Anyway, good luck with your decision and let me know if you have any questions.
Our baby is still breech, she has been for a couple of months and I have decided to not do the ECV. We go in for my 36 week tomorrow and a growth u/s and will discuss other options which will include a scheduled c-section. The reasons I decided against the ECV are, I didn't want an epidural for the procedure, there is only a 60% success rate and that isn't high enough for me, and there are risks where an emergency c-section would be needed.
Have you been on spinningbabies.com? The exercises haven't worked for me so far but I keep doing them every day. I'm also going to try acupuncture this week to see if that does the trick.
Good luck, I know it's extra stuff to think about but your baby will come into the world one way or another!
Are they talking about that already? My Dr. said shes not truely concerned until really the end of 36 weeks or beginning of 37. She mentioned it at my last appointment so I would be informed but my LO is already head down, face down as of last weeks u/s. (For myself it doesn't matter since Im having a c/s because I have gestational hypertension)
I did hear that they can be very painful but lets hope not! Also, from the woman I know who have had them, they arent exactly very sucessful.
Still may be worth a shot if you need it so GL to you.
I had it done last week. Unfortunatley, it didn't work for me. I was nervous, especailly since DH was out of town but my parents went with me for support. The staff was very friendly and told me everything they were doing along the way. They did an NST first, then I got a shot to relax my uterus, the shot hurt, then the Dr. tried to turn LO. There was a nurse monitoring the baby with ultrasound the whole time. It was uncomfortable and hurt a couple times but only it was just the kind of hurt of your skin being pushed nothing internal. My LO would turn a little then the butt would go back down. The Dr. tired a both directions and with me in a couple postitions but he never forced LO to move, which is good.
I'm still trying all the positions that are listed on spinningbabies.com, playing music where they head should be and today I just tried putting an ice pack over the area where LO's head is now hoping to turn him/her. I would really prefer not to have a C-section so I'm not giving up yet. I was told by a few people that Acupuncture and Chiropracters can help. I emailed a couple acupuncturists but don't really feel comfortable going to a chiropracter while pregnant.
Let me know if you need any addtional info, I'd be happy to help. Good luck!!
My baby was straight up and down breech until Thursday when she turned! SO hopefully she will turn for you!! Good luck. (sorry i was not helpful to your question)
I attempted to have one done with DS who was also frank breech. Mine was not successful because he was engaged already and had been for weeks. But I did try and I tried a lot of the methods on spinningbabies.com to no avail. He just wouldn't budge. If you go for it, good luck and try to relax. And have some Tylenol on hand for afterwards because it can hurt. I was actually bruised from it. I'm not trying to scare you at all, but I want to let you know that it can happen so you're not surprised if it does. I hope your baby turns though without needing it done.
I'm in your boat...LO is STILL in a frank breech position and was told by my OB that by this point she's most likely not going to move. I've already scheduled a section for the 24th b/c and ECV is not only something that I do not want to do for my own reasons but my OB isn't really keen on doing them herself. If my LO needs to come via section that is fine by me!! Hope things work out for you!!
