Hi guys, I'm going to be a guest on the new mom's new babies podcast tonight discussing parenting in the internet age of messageboards, blogging, twitter, facebook etc.
I plan on talking about all the millions of things I learned that I NEVER would have known otherwise (like that the sun takes out BF baby poop stains, or about the baby crack machine) but was wondering if you had any stories to share about useful things you learned on the internet that you would never have learned IRL. and where you learned them (the bump, another place etc)
You can post here or also on my blog post today where I asked the same thing:

Thanks so much, I want to make sure I have good stuff to say and that I'm not the worst guest they've ever had
Re: Most useful thing you learned here?
Cloth diapering options is probably the biggest learning experience for me. DH suggested that we look into cloth, and I was not too keen on the idea. After asking around on the EFF board, I learned so much about today's cloth diapering options and now can't imagine not using our cloth diapers.
Same is true for making baby food. I had planned to make some, but I didn't realize just how easy it was until reading tips on here. I also learned about www.kellymom.com and www.wholesomebabyfood.com from girls on the nest.
I also received several recommendations to read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. At first, I found the book long-winded and confusing, but now that we're post-sleep training, I really appreciate all of the detail he provides.
ETA: Sophie! I'd never heard of her before the nest and DD has been chewing happily on her for months.
Probably the sharing of experience-based knowledge (versus things you can google). I don't think I would have known to think "ear infection" when my daughter was waking up on and off at night screaming, and only nursing on one side. Even my pediatrician thought I was reaching until she checked & confirmed it...but when I posted those symptoms & my wondering if it was her ears (based on others mentioning the not nursing on one side), someone on here (cbwm I think) "that's exactly what happens to my son with his ear infections".
That kind of experience-based knowledge is priceless to me...something you can't just look up in a book.
Great stuff guys, thanks - keep em coming!
(Ps, these are many of the same things I learned but forgot about, so thanks for being my memory too
benefits of baby wearing and support for co-sleeping early on.
ETA: good luck!
