I know that there are expiration dates, but I just wanted to know if any of you are using an infant seat for a second child (3 yr age gap) as long as it is before the expiration date. TIA.

Re: Is it okay to use an infant seat for second baby?
I don't see any reason why you wouldn't use your own infant seat for your second child, as long as it wasn't in an accident or damaged in any way and it was not past the expiration date.
We certainly plan on using ours again as long as nothing happens to it. Would I use someone else's carseat? No.

My Mom watches my nephews (ages 2 yrs and 4mos) while my bro and sil work.
One of my cousins gave her an infant seat w base and a regular car seat that are both 5+ years old and in great condition.
She took them to the firestation to be inspected and installed. They passed with flying colors. They said most in the past 8 years are fine.
If you have any doubt take them to be inspected.

Yes, I am using my son's infant carseat. He was born March '07.
Why not use it?
Ours are close together but 3 years isn't that long either.
We are debating whether to change seats only because we didn't really like what we had for DD (neither did she) plus many of the double strollers we are considering won't take it.
I have no safety issues with it though and feel it's ok to reuse it.
Where do you find the expiration date on a carseat???
There should be either a sticker on it with the manufacture date, model number, expiry date, etc or it could be molded into the plastic itself usually underside.
