She smells my milk and won't go to sleep!

We've been encouraging an eat/play/sleep pattern with DD during the day and it's going really well, but she only goes down easy when DH puts her to sleep. She likes to be held upright and sung to in order to fall asleep, and she smells my milk when she's on me (I EP though, not nurse). She gets all antsy and starts burying her face in my chest, even though she's not hungry. Does anyone else have this issue?

  • DS does that, so I end up nursing more than e really needs--honestly at least a third of his nursing time is comfort sucking (I nurse *a lot*).

Yeah I try to trick her by comfort sucking with a pacifier, but it doesn't work! She sleeps SO much better if she doesn't have a bottle right before sleeping (she actually naps for an hour or more instead of 20-30 minutes!). These LOs have such a good sense of smell!

  • Ds does this, but sometimes I can hold him upright facing away from me, although he's quite a bit older than you dd.  More recently he's really stretched out his time during feedings, so I think that helps too.  And he doesn't fall asleep on me anymore (although he does in the swing, which I know isn't a great habit for him, but I do what I have to do at times!)

  • so that's what it is! I've always wondered why DD always tries to snuggle up with my boobs whenever I hold her against my chest.  I also EP so I knew it wasn't because she wanted to nurse, but now it makes sense.
