Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Puking after feeding

I haven't been on here in forever but I'm hoping some of you ladies can help me out nonetheless.

Baby girl has been vomiting after every feeding. I am EBF and can't figure this one out. She doesn't seem ill or sick. She doesn't have a fever or anything. She feeds about 15-20 min on one side and about 5-10 on the other then starts falling asleep. I let her relax in my arms for a bit before moving her about to get her in her bassinet then BAM she vomits all over herself and me. I just hope she is ok.

I will call my health care provider tomorrow if thiscontinues into the night but I just wondered if anyone had an idea of what her problem could be.

 TIA

  • DS did this to me a couple of weeks ago. ?He dumped about 5 ounces all over me, puddled everywhere! ?I figured out that I need to pull him off and burp him every 5 minutes. ?So far the massive vomiting has stopped...
  • ditto the burping. supposedly bf babies aren't as gassy, but my LO must be burped quite often during and after eating.  If he isn't properly burped, he will spit up big time.

  • Thats what I thought too! My mdwives told me that breastfeed babies don't need to be burped that often but I started to do it more thinking that was the issue. Maybe I will try the 5 min intervals with her.
  • Mine did this for a little bit at the same age as your LO... we made sure to burp him a lot more... try to get more then one burp out.  I also tried gas drops, and that seemed to help.

If you fill a tablespoon of two of milk and spill it on the counter, does that look like the amount she is throwing up?  Sometimes when they are that little it looks like a lot more then it is.

Also it could be that your letdown is too forceful for her.  Try expressing some milk first, and then putting her on the breast.

    GL!

  • One of mine does this... b/c I feed them at the same time and the other doesn't do it, but I realized that b/c I nurse both at the same time, and DD is smaller, he nurses laying across me and she nurses in a more upright position.  When I started keeping him upright for nursing  and about 10 minutes after eating, it stopped.  But then when I am stupid and want to cuddle with him and feed him laying down, he does it again.
