Preemies

What could you not live without for your preemie?

I definitely know that I want to get a video monitor this time.  I really wanted one with DS, but I know that I will not feel comfortable with DD if I cannot see her.  I also plan on getting her an organic mattress instead of a regular one.  What items did/do you love for your preemie?

Re: What could you not live without for your preemie?

  • My DD lived in the bobby pillow for like 3 months. It was the only place she would sleep. I guess because in the NICU they prop them up to sleep and have them all bundled up. She felt snug and secure in her boppy. She wouldn't sleep in the craddle. Video monitor, Breast pump, lots of storage bags. my dd loved the fisher price newborn to toddler rocker (it vibrates and has things that hang down she can look at).
  • Loading the player...
  • Definitely make sure you have a good bouncy chair and a swing. We couldn't have lived without either of ours - the bouncy chair was great for gas and reflux (preemies are prone to both), and the swing was nice for a change of scenery.
  • baby papason (cradle seat with vibrator/music), cradle swing, breast pump--a good one, tons of freezer space...Good luck with your new little girl!
  • Medla Quick Steam bags, hand sanitizer on little rubber key chains (I have them on the stroller, diaper bag, my purse, the car, etc), Boppys, swings, Rainforest bouncy and Playful Puppy bouncy, lots of receiving blankets used to roll and position the baby as well as swaddle, the Oball, the Sassy phone rattle, lightweight maracas from Oriental Trading company, Fisher Price Kick Piano crib toy, Fisher Price Sing Along Stage Star toy (for when they're learning to sit).
  • the halo swaddleme sleepsack. they always kept DS in one in the hospital and he lived in one when he came home. i still credit swaddling as the reason he sleeps so well!
  • Angelcare Monitor, Swaddleme wraps, Boppy vibrating bouncy seat, Co-sleeper, deep freezer, breastmilk bags, tons of hand sanitizer, Summer Infant 3-Stage Seat (instead of an exersaucer or johnny jumpup, which are generally considered big no-nos for preemies - our developmental therapist recommended it and we've gotten waaay more mileage out of the Summer Seat than I thought we would).

    Congrats on your little one!

  • We have three boppy pillows for one child -- one upstairs, one down and one at grandma's house!   The other must have -- those plastic rings that link together (you can put toys on them, etc) -- three of those linked together make him very happy.   Our developmental specialist says they are great for working on grasping and passing things hand to hand, etc.

And the Angel Care monitor and Rainforest Soother for night time.

  • Angelcare movement sensor monitor!!!
  • Anglecare Monitor

Moby Wrap or some type of sling

    papasan bouncy chair

Gripe Water (Ruby got hiccups all the time and this got rid of them)

  • We couldn't have lived without an electic toothbrush.  When DS was sooooo fussy and nothing would calm him, we ran the toothbrush handle on his back and the vibrations calmed him down.

Next time, I want to have one of those preemie donut things for their head.  We are going to get the flat head checked out on Monday.  Hope we don't need a helmet.

  • I'd say Boppy, Miracle Blankets, Co-Sleeper, Fisher Price Rainforest swing (we actually have 2 and they plug in!!), Aden and Anais receiving blankets.

  • I'm a new preemie mom, so I'm still taking notes... but so far she loves her Baby Einstein Takealong Tunes. We keep it right on the changing table to distract Miss Fussy Squirmsalot! It mesmerizes her like baby hypnosis!

Also I'd have to say our ItzBeen timer, Happiest Baby on the Block DVD/white noise CD, Fisher Price Newborn to Toddler Rocker, Avent IQ bottle warmer & Preemie PAMPERS all the way (OMG how terrible were the Preemie Huggies?!)
  • We couldn't have lived without the bouncy chair, sleep sacks, Fisher Price Soothing Motions Glider (this was a lifesaver!!), white noise machine, and video monitor...  Wow, this brings back memories!
