1st Trimester

Did you give up coffee?

Just curious who gave up coffee. I'm still drinking about a 1/2 a cup every morning, but I've cut waaaaay back. I haven't even had Starbucks since finding out I'm pregnant, and that's HUGE for me. I just don't think a 1/2 a cup of coffee is harmful, especially since the "danger zone" is when you get up to 3+ cups a day.

Re: Did you give up coffee?

  • I've completely given up all caffiene..but I also went through IVF and cut it all out when I started that process in May ..so it's not a huge change for me anymore :)

  • I did, because it was giving me heartburn.  Crying

  • No way!  I don't turn human until I've had my cup of joe in the morning.

  • I used to drink it all the time, but the thought of it makes me want to puke now. Although the smell doesn't bother me.
  • Yes, I've given up all caffeine.

  • I have given it up.  The first couple of days were hard, just because it was a habit for me to come in to work and put on a pot of coffee, but I really don't notice anymore.

  • I gave it up. But, I'm also kinda paranoid ;) I might go back to maybe a half cup/day after first tri.
  • Not intentionally.  I used to have a cup every morning and when I first got pregnant, I continued.  Now, it just doesn't appeal to me.

  • i gave it up but only because it doesn't taste good to me. i wasn't worried about the caffeine as long as its in moderation.

  • I did but after 7 weeks of no Dunkin, I really began missing it. My sister just recently had a healthy baby & had made friday "Dunkin Donuts Friday" throughout her pregnancy so since I'm almost out of first tri, I too made Fridays my Dunkin Donuts. I do order decaf though if it makes a difference.

  • I did not with DS just cut back.  Right now it just does not sound good to me.
  • I'm working on it. DH & I were planning on DD so I completely decaffinated myself and went to decaff (yes, I know there's still a little caffeine) only green tea for about 1 year before having her (since I lost 2 prior to having DD - we'd been trying for a while). I stayed pretty much pop/coffee/tea free unless I absolutely had a taste or needed a pick me up. This time around I got pregnant on the pill and had no clue so I let myself become addicted to the coffee after DD was done breastfeeding just to help me get up in the morning. So I'm working on letting it go. I'm down to one cup of coffee a day and one can of RC a day. I know it's still less then what's ok, I just would rather kick it all together. It's hard to quit cold turkey w/ a 1 year old.

  • I cut out all caffeine... I switched to decaf coffee, and cut out diet/soda and chocolate...

  • I wasn't being hyper vigilante about it-gave up caffeine in soda though. However, the smell and thought of drinking coffee makes me gag. So I inadvertently gave it up. So I guess you could say I am caffeine free excluding the chocolate I eat:)
  • I had/ have no intention of giving up my latte. However, the last few days I have been sick and haven't felt like getting my Starbucks. I am listening to my body more and the baby and right now that doesn't seem appetizing.

same here.  I drank several weeks in and stopped by about 8 almost completely.  I"m down to one per week at most.  Part of it is that I was a serious coffee addict and one way I cut back was switching to a small French press to help me control my portions.  Once I started doing that, it just kind of fell by the wayside in my morning routine.

  • No coffee for me... just a few mimosas.  I'm kidding.  I have 1 cup every morning, but I haven't been finishing it because I get nauseated.
  • I did give up all caffeine.  Did the same with DD.  However, the fatigue is really kicking my ass this time around, so I may start having a cup of tea/ day in the second tri if my energy doesn't come back soon.
  • i try to drink decaf but every once in awhile i have a about 3/4 a cup of regular although it's starting to not appeal to me as much so we will see.

  • I just drink decaf.
  • I still have a cup of half-caff in the morning.  If it is tough day, I will also have some green tea or half a soda in the afternoon.
  • I work in a customer service environment and I work loong weeks, so I am one of the few that have not given up caffiene. I keep it in the safety zone, but I need it to keep a smile on my nauseated, fatigued face. :)

  • yep, i cut out all caffiene.
  • I have 1 cup on the one weekend day and it's mostly cream with a little coffee.
