Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What do you do in this situation?

DH and I (and Ava) went to dinner at a couple's house up the street from us (it was the first time we'd gotten together with them)  and the girl wanted to hold DD.  This is fine, I'm pretty laid back with that stuff, but then Ava started crying, and I pretty much immediately took her back.  Later on, DH was laughing about how quickly took her back.

I feed bad like others don't want to hold a crying baby, that's why I do that. Also because I know what she wants and can make her stop.  If it were my mom or someone really close to me, it would be different.

What do you do when your LO starts crying when someone else is holding them?

  • I do pretty much exactly what you do.  I either take her or offer to take her if she starts crying.  It just depends on who is holding her.
  • haha, my sister was just making fun of me about this.

apparently, I hover and kinda dance around arms open saying, "i'll take her whenever you want me to!" in a high pitched voice.

I wouldn't worry,  I think it's what mommies are supposed to do! (or at least you're not alone!)

  • I have that same first impulse, that it's my responsibility to soothe DS when he starts crying, but I've tried to catch myself, and instead of just assuming they want to hand DS back off to me, offer to take him if they want. If they want a go, that's a nice break for me, plus if they do something that soothes him, I learn something new to try :)
  • Usually the same, depends on how they look...do they look like a deer in headlights and don't know what to do? Then yes, if they seem okay with it then i'll let him be for a short time to see what happens
  • I tend to do the same thing.  I usually take her back because she is crying and I don't think that other people want to hold a crying baby.  I usually ask first if they want me to take her but if they say no and she doesn't stop, I usually find a way to take her back a short time later.  Most of the people I know want to give her back if she cries though.    BTW.. your DD is beautiful!!
  • If it is my mom, I will leave DD with her...anyone else, I take her right away.  I hate hearing her upset.
  • I do the same thing. If I'm holding someone else's baby and he/she starts to cry I give him/her to their mom.

  • I do the same thing. Even if it's my mom. Guess I'm just a paranoid 1st time parent.
