And none of this wishy washy "I love very age" stuff.
With each of our 3 children, I always loved the newborn stage best. DH thinks I'm nuts, but I love it when babies are tiny and cuddly, and that special newborn smell is TDF!
As for my least favorite age, it's probably DS#2's age (nearly 16 months). He's old enough to climb onto chairs and other high furniture, constantly gets into things, but has no understanding that nearly everything he does can result in injury. I feel like 90% of my day (except for now, when he's sleeping) is spent watching him like a hawk, even though our home is baby-proofed. No matter how closely I supervise him, I have to turn my back to help DS#1, and that's all the time it takes for my wee demon to wreak havoc.
Re: Old school, non-clicky POLL! Your favorite/least favorite age so far.
i'm not sure really. this age is great for some things - she's a lot of fun, is starting to talk, all that stuff. but she's also like your ds2 - she's into everything. today i've pulled her off the kitchen table and chairs so many times i lost count. she climbs in the desk chair to swipe things off and bang on the keyboard. she jumps off the couch intentionally.
the newborn stage was good other than the lack of sleep. i was such a weepy zombie, i can't remember a lot of it.
Honestly? This is my favorite age (17 months). Yes, he was all little/cuddly/sweet as an infant...but he slept for crap, which was no fun for either of us.
This age, yes, he can be a handful, but he is so curious about things. And he blows my mind with how much he knows/understands things. I swear, he's learning something new every single day. He's also such a ham and constantly has us laughing. He's got a huge personality and I love watching him interact with other people. He's also super affectionate....which I can never get enough of. I have a 16 year old daughter who would sooner die than give her mother a hug/kiss, so I am enjoying every snuggle, hug and smooch from Ben because I know it won't last forever.
Oops, I forgot to say my least favorite age. Well, I never in my life experienced sleep deprivation like I did the first 6 weeks of Ben's life. He was up every single night every 60-90 minutes, all night long. It was like hell on earth. That being said, he was still so small and innocent. I miss that.
I think my least favorite age was probably about 13-14 months. He went through a holy terror phase then where he was a freaking maniac. He was into everything, torturing the cats every 5 minutes, biting, hitting, etc. He'll still mess with the cats now and then, but nothing like before.
Me, too! I have a 16-year-old DD, but DS#2 isn't very affectionate. He would much rather be on the move than giving me kisses. DS#1 is a huge cuddler. He always wants to be in my lap. Then, and then only, does the baby want to be in my lap, too. He senses that big brother is encroaching on his territory.
Everything is SUCH a trade off-
however i think my favorite age (so far) was when she was around 7 months old. I could still easily keep up with her and she was just starting to develop her skills.
Least like- (sadly) this age. almost 15 months- she is in to everything, and i cannot drink ANYTHING without sharing (i know this won't go away for a long time)- she is TOO fast and can tear apart an entire room in a blink of an eye. Gotta love it!
I agree that there is such a trade off on ages, but if I have to pick I'd say my favorite age is around 6 months. They're still small, but learning to sit up/crawl. I just think it's a really fun age.
As for least favorite, age 3, hands down. I love that DD can do so much more with me now and tells me stories, but it is overshadowed by the terrible 3s!
(m/c 1.17.07, m/c 5.15.07)
DS - 03.15.08
DD2 - 12.03.09
DD3 - 3.28.11
My least favorite was the newborn and my most favorite is now (almost 6 months).
I love this poll! I am so ready for DD to be able to walk and move around, so we can do more fun things, but this poll makes me think I should slow down and enjoy her time now, since a few of you said this age is your favorite.
I have a 3-year-old and a 17-month-old. I've loved every stage with the exception of 24 to 36 months. Maybe it was because I also simultaneously had an infant during this time, but it was by far the most challenging year of my life. The tantrums and other behaviors just about did me in! Now that she's turned three and is potty trained, my older daughter has turned back into the sweet little girl I used to know.
*edit* Oops sorry! YOu didn't want wishy washy!
I'd say my favorites have been 6 to 12 months and 12 to 18 months.
3 is my favorite age! Zachary is old enough to do fun stuff with me like movies, restaurants, anything, really, and is potty-trained. He is so cute and always amazed at everything: "Yippee!!! We're going over the railroad tracks!" He can tell me what's wrong.
Least favorite would be the crawling stage -- from 7-13 mo. for Joshua who was VERY active. He was not content to sit in his stroller but then he would crawl around on the floor everywhere and put everything in his mouth. Now that he walks/runs everywhere, at least he doesn't put everything in his mouth. Just some stuff.
My least favorite age is the newborn stage - I HATE the newborn stage. I am on my THIRD terrible sleeper, and they really don't do anything......
I also don't like age 2........DD#2 is giving me a run for my money - UGH!!!! She can scream REALLY loud! LOL! And she has been communicating in full sentences since 15 months old, so she's really verbal.
I LOVE age 3-4, even though I have to deal with the "backtalk" right now.
