1st Trimester

Thoughts and Prayers Needed

I have been bleeding since earlier this afternoon.  I soaked a pantyliner in a couple of hours.  Tried to call the doctor but they're closed until Monday.  DH doesn't want me to go to the ER because of the cost and the fact that they won't be able to do anything anyway.  He's at work and can't come home because the guy that would need to cover his shift has a date and won't cover for him.  I haven't had any cramping or clotting so I'm trying to hold out hope.  I'll call the doctor on Monday morning to try to get in sooner than my appointment on the 20th.  Thoughts and prayers will be appreciated.

Re: Thoughts and Prayers Needed

  • Do you have any minor emergency centers in your area?  It may be an alternative to the ER that you could use and are usually covered by insurance.

  • doesn't your dr have an after hours emergency number where you could talk to them and get their advice???
  • You really need to head to the ER.  Bleeding like this is not normal and if you have a tear in your placenta or something of the sort it needs to be looked at.

Please don't put a price on you or your LOs health.

  • Hang in there. Hopefully it's just nothing and everything will be fine. Think positively!
  • Oh forgot to say that I would definitely call your dr's office to get in touch with the on-call OB. I think that all OB offices have on-call doctors when the office is closed.
  • Um, Fvck you DH and go to the ER!  There could be something they can do - you don't know for sure.  That is horrible.
  • coming over from 3rd tri... honey.. go to the doctor.. that is not safe!!!

Call ur docs office.. they should have an answering service along with an on call doctor.

  • Your DH is an arse if he thinks the health of you and your unborn child is not worth the money. AT LEAST call your OB. Don't let money stand in the way of treatment that may be needed.

  • Please go to the ER. Depending on your blood type, you may need the RH shot.

if you are worried about ER costs, talk to your hospitals payments Dept. They will work with you on either a payment plan or depending on how much you and DH make, you could get your costs completely taken care of.

  • Please call the on call Dr. even if they are closed someone should be on call. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL MONDAY!! Please! Also the pp is right, look for an urgent care center near you that may be covered by insurance.

  • Sorry hun but I agree with the other girls. Give your OB office a call they should have a doctor on call. Is there an urgent care that is available where you are? I think you really should be seen or atleast talk to a doctor, your DH is in no situation to diagnose you.
  • Thank you for your advice, I have called the emergency number at my OB office and a doctor is supposed to call me back within 30 minutes.

I didn't mean to make my DH sound bad, we were just under the impression that the ER can't do anything to stop what's happening anyway.

  • You should go to the ER.  You need to take care of your body and rule out some potential complications.  If there is anything they can do they need to do it now.  It's for your health as much as the baby.

    Take care yourself.

I don't think he's a horrible person or anything.  He isn't a Dr though.  It is true that if it is the start of a m/c that they can't stop it, but it could be numerous other things.  There are a few ladies I know on here who had heavy bleeding and one is in the 3rd tri now and the other had her baby 2 weeks ago.  Bleeding doesn't always = m/c which is why it's important to go to the Dr or ER.

I'm glad you called the OB.  They will give you the best advice.  It is true that if you are having a m/c, there is usually nothing that can be done to stop it.  But you don't know exactly what is going on and there are a lot of reasons for bleeding.  Also the pp who mentioned Rh is right about you possibly needing a shot.  Rh without proper medication can lead to fertility issues.  (Most people have a positive blood type, so this is not an issue for most people.)

  • DH is correct in that they can't do anything to stop a miscarriage.... but if you have an ectopic pregnancy or tubal pregnancy the consequences can be extremely severe without medical attention asap. I'm talking permanent damage to your fallopian tubes/ possible death. I don't mean to sound like a drama queen or to worry you (which I ineviably did), but if you are bleeding that heavily it is worth your health, the baby's health and your peace of mind to go to the hospital NOW.

  • oH boy ... I'm just said a prayer for you too ... hugs ...
  • The doctor just called and said that I can call on Monday and they'll have me come in to test my hormone levels.  I asked if I should go to the ER and she said bleeding is fairly normal this early.  She said I can go to the ER if I want to but probably the only thing they'll do is check my hormone levels.  I don't know that she made me feel any better...
  • Drink lots of water and keep your feet up.  I wonder if you have what I've had 5 times: a subchorionic hematoma.  Basically, I'll get a huge gush of red blood without cramping.  It is followed by spotting.  If that's what you have then your baby is probably completely ok.  Hematomas are mostly harmless.  The fact that you don't have cramping is an awesome sign.  I know it's hard but try not to worry.  I've had hematomas from week 5 all the way to yesterday and my baby is developing exactly on schedule.  Until you can get to a doctor just try to stick to bedrest as much as possible.  Good luck.  You and baby are in my T&P.

  • Praying for you!

If your Dr didn't give you any piece of mind, go to the ER. At least they can hopefully explain what is happening to you. As numerous people already posted, your health is much more important then money. You are in my thoughts & prayers. GL!

  • At this point, the only things you need the ER for would be if you are soaking a pad per hour, or you start to have pain. In those cases they would need to rule out an ectopic pregnancy.

It's good that you aren't having cramping right now. I will hope that everything is OK.

  • I truly hope and pray that everything is okay with you, but I do encourage you to go to the ER anyways.

My mom had a m/c when I was like 8 or 9 and didn't go in.  She eventually went because things didn't get better and her abdomen was so full of blood that she had lost.  It was really awful and she could have (some thought should have) died (because she lost so much blood).  Many times there are no complications per say, but you don't know when there will be.

That sounds like your mom had a ruptured ectopic, if she had blood outside her uterus, filling up her abdomen. Definitely scary.

  • Go to the ER. I say this because this happened to me the 1st time I got pregnant.  I ended up w/ an ectopic pregnancy and my right tube was 1 CENTIMETER from rupture, then you start to bleed out internally. Not to scare you, it could be nothing, or it could be something. It's not a risk to take. Women die from ectopics. 1/2 the time the bleeding starts before the pain starts.

  • You should go to the ER.  Especially if you have pain.  If you had an ectopic you would definitely have pain.  If you are having a m/c, they can't do anything, but it's still good to go in and be checked out because that might not even be the case.  I had SEVERE pain at about 8 weeks, no bleeding, and I was in the ER twice in one weekend.  They ended up diagnosing me with multiple subchorionic hemorrhages.  Those usually go away on their own and don't require treatment but they do need to be watched.  Bleeding is VERY common with these, and pain is not.  They also had to rule out ectopic pregnancy and a twisted ovary in my case.

Go to the ER.  You can worry about the bill later and make payments.

The doctor just called and said that I can call on Monday and they'll have me come in to test my hormone levels.? I'm so sorry you're scared. ?I'm also sorry so many are being SUPER DRAMATIC like you need to rush to the ER immediately. ?Take your doctor's advice. ?And from someone who went to the ER for two pregnancies I was miscarrying- I would NEVER recommend someone going to the ER unless your OB tells you to. ?A 1st trimester pregnant woman is about a zero on their urgency scale- I watched people with the flu and sprained fingers being taken back while I waited for five hours to be taken to a curtained area, where we spent most the night waiting for an u/s that told us basically nothing. ?Docs at the ER are not all that well trained in pregnancy - and you won't be taken to L&D since you're still in the 1st tri. ?And even once I saw the doctor, there was nothing they could do anyway. ?I don't mean to be all gloom and doom, but I think you're being given misinformed advice here and I wanted to share an experience from someone who has been there twice.

I agree with your doctor's advice, and I hope you'll be one of those who bleeds and goes on to have a perfectly normal pregnancy. ?Take care of yourself, put your feet up, try to relax.?

  • I am with the other mothers to be.  Please go and make sure that you and the baby are ok. I know that the money thing is stressful, but there is aid out there and people understand all you have to do is ask the hospital for help either a payment plan or any finacial aid that might be available. I will be thinking about you and your baby and praying for you both.  But please take care and dont wait.
  • Sending lots of good thoughts your way. I hope everything is okay.
