what and when did you send your announcments?

I wanted to send out my announcements in the next couple of weeks and I don't know what the protocal was.

did you send them out before your little one came home?

what picture did you include if any?

what did it say? "birth weight" or what?

what are your thoughts?

Re: what and when did you send your announcments?

  • I sent them out at about 6 weeks and used his one month professional pictures. He came home at 3 weeks.

I don't think there is a real protocal it would just be up to you.

    I gave his birth stats.

  • I sent them out after he came home. Included his birth stats and an extra line that said "welcomed home on..." and the date he came home.

  • We sent them when he was about 6 weeks old. He was home from the NICU but sick again and in the Pediatric ICU. We had pro pictures done right when he got home from the NICU so we used one of those. We did include weight and length.
  • I just sent mine out yesterday, he came home on 7/13.  I used a pic that I took the week he came home and gave all of his birth stats.  I would have added a welcomed home line, but none that I liked had this kind of option.
  •  I waited until she came home (2.5 weeks later) and used a pic I took at home...so she didn't have all of the wires and the IV tube on...I used her actual birth weight and length...but she was only 6 weeks early so she was over 5 lbs anyway...

  • I sent out birth announcements without a picture when Brandon was born. I did include his birth weight. When he came home I sent out welcome home announcements. I put a picture of Brandon from the day he was born and a picture of him from the day he came home. I put his birth weight and length from when he was born and from when he came home.

  • We did them after he came home.  We did a birth day picture on one side (tubes and all) and then a picture of him happy at home on the other side.  Across the top it said "Miracles Happen" and his full name ran across the bottom.  In the middle between the pictures it said something like - "Jake was born at Duke Hospital on May 19, 2008 - 2 pounds, 13.5 inches.  We welcomed him on on August 13, 2008 - 5 pounds, 18.5 inches."
  • I've been sending mine out over the past week.  I used a pic i took while in the nicu - and his birth stats - that's how he was born and I'm still his proud mommy! (though he didn't have as many tubes/wires as some little ones)

Here they are:  I actually found part of the design online - adapted it to my needs, and had them printed on magnets thru vistaprint.  (i actually did this for my wedding save the dates last year also)

  • I sent them a few weeks after DS was home.  He was in the NICU for 27 days.  I used a pic I had taken of him while he was all swaddled and sleeping that I took of him once he was home, so there weren't any cords, canulas, etc.  He just looked perfectly angelic.  I included all his DOB, birth weight/height, and parents' names.
  • I sent them out when they were about 2 months old. They had been home for 3-4 weeks and we took a bunch of newborn pictures ourselves.  It was easter time so we did diapered babies with their NICU hats on, naked babies, and babies in a basket of eggs.  We ended up putting a big picture in the middle of the two of them and then a single small picture of each of them with their birth stats in either corner.  I think you can send them out whenever you want!

  • i think you get an extra dispensation of etiquette time. :) nicu mommies are busy mommies.

i sent ours out last week. (she was about 2 months old.) i had them printed and got them in a few weeks before that. (as i said, "busy mommies"!)

we included her weight, dates, length etc. and a picture without any wires or tubes. she is still on the cpap, and just started sprinting a few weeks ago. when we take her home we're going to do a "welcome home" announcement that has a picture of her adorable little face.

i got the idea for the picture by looking at other announcements that had multiple pictures on them. the ones that had one picture of hands, one of feet, etc...

  • I waited until he came home to take pics (though we were "only" in the NICU for 30 days....not sure if I would have done something different had we needed to stay longer) and then sent out a photo announcement with 4 pics and birth stats.  He was about 5 weeks or so actual when I took the photos and about 6 weeks actual when I sent them out.
  • I sent them out 4-6 weeks after she was born.  Name, birthday, birth weight, and length.  I just took a few pictures after she was born and included those since the hospital didn't take pics for an announcement.
  • Our little girl was born quite small and 7 weeks early... once she came home we took a cute pic of her with blankets and all but put her actual info; birth weight, length, DOB, etc.  She was born April 21st and came home May 15th... I think we sent out the announcements around 1st week of July.  Everyone loved them!
