What is so great about Britax seats, anyway?

I had just assumed that I would buy one for DD because they are supposedly "the best".  Then I started doing some research and it looks like there are other carseats that are just as well-reviewed (I think we're going to get an Evenflo Triumph) and waaaaaay less money.  What in the world makes them cost over $100 more than most other carseats? Are they really that great? Or just really trendy?

  • We have a Marathon.  I don't know if it's "better" than others, but it has so much padding and DS just looks very comfortable in them. I've seen others in stores (like the Evenflo Triumph) that get the same ratings but don't look as comfy.  I'm all about keeping my kid happy in the car.  :)

  • We got a Marathon instead of the Triumph because the weight limit was 15lbs higher (50 vs 65).

  • We have a Marathon in my car and a Triumph in my husband's. DS is pretty cramped in the Marathon already, but he loves the Triumph. Go figure.

  • I liked the max weights on it so that I could ideally have to buy only one carseat for DS and I love the fact that it tethers RF.
  • so we got the fisher-price safe voyage seats because they're made by britax but about 1/2 the price. maybe less. and i thought they were fine. they are fine. but then i was looking at a friend's britax, and they have all these cool features that make it so much easier to use. like the latch hooks. and other things i can't think of.

do i think it makes them worth another $150? eh. definitely not when i had to buy three of them!

  • I feel the same way.  We love our Evenflo Triumph and it is so easy to install, tighten the straps and DS is comfortable as well.  Will definitely buy another one if needed in the future!  And by the time DS meets the weight limits he can move to a booster.
  • Check the padding.  Britax has a LOT more foam padding under the cover than most other brands do.  We have a Roundabout and an Evenflo Triumph.  The Roundabout is made SO much better ... I hate the Evenflo's straps.

  • We have 2 Marathon, and we previously owned a Roundabout. I LOVE my Britax seats. I love that the fabric is super plush, the velcro tabs to keep the straps out of the way, the belly pad and strap covers, and especially that it tethers rear-facing (only 2 brands do).

I, however, have managed to get both my Marathons on clearance (Target) for $135 and $140. So, I got an amazing deal on them.

My cousin has the Triumph and loves it too.

Oh, and my DD is almost 19 months and has tons of room in her Marathon.

i will say the opposite of this was our experience. i think they are super uncomfortable. and we weren't looking to save money when we got carseats so britax was high on our list. the seat base was smaller, the padding seemed skimpy, eh... i was not impressed.

  • We have the Boulevard, and my main reason for buying it was the True Side Impact Protection.  I watched the videos and appreciated that feature, along with the head rest adjustment, tether, etc.  Plus the "wings" give DS a nice little pillow when he falls asleep :-)

  • I actually looked at the Britax and the Evenflo Triumph had more padding than all the Britax models in my opinion. That is what sold us on the Evenflo over the Britax in the end. I wasn't going to base it just on cost and both are supposed to be highly rated for safety. The padding ended up being the deciding factor for me.

  • We had a Britax Roundabout and DS always looked so uncomfortable when we put him in it, plus by the time he was 9 months old he almost outgrew it so we bought an Evenflo Triumph Advanced DLX and he loves it, I love that it has the knobs to tighten the straps and you don't ever have to rethread them when you LO gets bigger since they just slide up. We drove 12 hrs to NC right after we got the Evenflo and DS was as happy as a clam the whole way there.

  • We did a lot of research and ended up with the Britax Boulevard. Main reasons were the RF Tether, True Side imact and the high max weight limit.

When we brought the first to the seat tech to have it installed he said that he would not put his kids in anything but Britax. The second tech said the same thing when we brought the second seat.
