if you are using dreft to maintain the flame retardant of your LO's clothing, i don't think that fabric softeners/dryer sheets are recommended.
ETA: from Dreft's website:
Do you make Dreft dryer sheets?
We
do not make a Dreft? dryer sheet. In fact, we caution against using any
fabric softener on children's sleepwear or other garments labeled as
flame resistant as it may reduce flame resistance. Since we're always
looking for ways to improve our products or create new ones, we invite
you to share your ideas about our other products by emailing us.
I am actually using regular Downy. I have sensitive skin and have never had an issue with them, neither has DS. I do use All Free & Clear detergent though.
We've started using vinegar in the "fabric softener dispenser" instead of using dryer sheets. I got that from the EFF board.
I was a little skeptical at first, but it actually works really well and doesn't make everything smell. Occasionally I will get a little bit of static, but for the most part it even works on that!
Re: Fabric Softener Sheets
The unscented Bounce ones are good..

Dreft doesn't make dryer sheets anymore. Fabric softener breaks down what makes baby clothes flame retardant so you're not supposed to use it at all.
We use dryer balls (available at Target, Wal Mart, etc) as they do not affect flame retardant material.
