I disagree with butterfly sensations

as a way to describe the baby moving, at least for me! ?People started asking me if I felt the baby starting around 15 weeks and I always responded No because I was waiting for these butterfly feelings! ?It was not until a felt my usual popping, muscle twitching sensations at 20 weeks followed by a clear kick to my cervix that I realized I had been feeling the baby since 17 weeks. ?

I was so concerned that something was wrong and just kept on thinking I had gas when I was actually feeling the baby move. ?

Anyone else with me??

Re: I disagree with butterfly sensations

  • Mine feels like a fish swimming in my abdomen with an occasional little pop sensation.

  • I always thought they felt more like muscle twitches and thumbs. That's an awfully big butterfly... :-) I'm with you.
  • I never had flutters or butterfies either.  I would describe it as summersaults.  It just felt like she was rolling around and then full kicks, probably around 20 weks.

  • Mibne felt like popcorn popping in lower abdomen.
  • Yeah, I always associated mine with consistent muscle spasms more than flutters. I feel solid kicks, punches, and rolls now though
  • I've always described it like a tapping with the occasional punch.  DH is going to teach him morse code in the womb.

I'm still really not sure. Last night I felt something and I was pretty sure I was not gassy, but I can hardly even describe it - a muscle twitch? maybe even my heart beating?... I just don't know. Nothing that is obvious yet to me.

THIS! For me, it was a rolling sensation.

  • I felt mine the earliest at 15 weeks, and it felt like a fish was swimming and generating momentum with its fins.  And, I could feel him flipping.  Now... sometimes its a flipping sensation, but mostly its more distinctive kicks/punches every once in awhile.

  • Mine has felt more like muscle twitches as well.

When I felt something at 17 weeks it felt like a bubble growing a little and then popping in my abdomen. But then I felt nothing for a while. ?And I didn't realize that a lot of the movement I was feeling was baby until recently.

  • Mine definitely does feel like flutters or butterflies.  It's very light and tickly in my lower abdomen.  I only notice it when I'm laying in bed at night and it cracks me up.

DH actually put his hand on my belly lastnight and said, "Hi baby, it's daddy" and the flutters started right then.  He felt it and the look on his face was priceless.  I was a blubbering mess, it was so cute.

  • I sort of do. I would describe it more like gas gurgles that don't actually result in gas... But it also took me a while to recognize it as being LO moving.

  • I was concerned too b/c everyone would ask me about movement and I'd always so I haven't felt any.  Then one night at dinner I realized that the weird glub-glub feeling in stomach was the kid moving.  I'd been feeling it for a couple weeks and hadn't put the two together.  This is how I explained it to my husband "You know when you put the blue culligan water jug on top of the white stand/dispencer and there's those large bubbles that go glub-glub to the now top of the jug...that's what it feels like"
  • I'm with ya. My very first feelings were more goldfishy, but not on the regular enough for me to recognize them. I just described to my brother last night that it's like when you get one of those involuntary muscle spasms in your arm or calf or something... it just twitches uncontrollably a few times then stops, and you're left wondering "what the hell"?
  • Thank you...I thought that I was crazy with the feelings that I was having the popping as I also would call it.  I wasn't gassy but was having pops.  I was waiting for the "butterfly".  It must be my LO then.... thank you!

  • I get little pokes. Like someone is poking me with a finger.
  • I never had the butterfly sensations with my first or with this one. This one did feel like a goldfish swimming around at first. I like that description.
  • At first I could describe it as jelly fish tenicles tickeling my stomach, but soon after that it felt like muscle twitches. Now, I feel little jabs, just little ones though.
  • With DS, I felt the butterflies. But with this LO, I agree, it's been more pops and kicks from the get go. I don't know why the difference!
  • wow, I guess I'm in the minority. I did get the butterfly sensation. At the time, it was really early and I assumed it was gas. It would only happen when I either had to pee or was really full and sitting down. Which makes sense, in that it was really light, I had to be really still and the pressure of other things made it?noticeable. But then it changed into the tapping and goldfish feeling. So I think it was the baby. Hard to tell. Now it is distinct, and dh can feel it from the outside and has been able to for 2ish weeks.?

  • With DD, I felt it all... at first, it was mostly butterfly-like/flutters or like gas bubbles, but certainly by about 17-18 weeks, I remember the muscle twitch sensation. At 18 weeks, I clearly remember feeling the first real "punch" -- that was when I was 100% sure it was her.

So far, with this one, I'm not 100% sure I'm feeling him/her... but I know it's still really early. The majority of what I think is the baby does feel like flutters/gas bubbles. I do feel an occasional muscle twitch, but it might actually BE a muscle twitch Smile or my heart beating in my abdomen. Hard to say.

  • For me it was taps.  It felt like someone gently tapping from the inside.  And occasionally when I am unsure if it's just been my imagination, I get what I describe as a headbutt - a definitely thump.

  • I never felt flutters, either.

It started with gas bubbles at 16w and moved to muscle twitches at 18w. Now I can feel full blown kicks and punches, and the occasional odd rolling over sensation.
