AW: DH and a baby

Last night, we were at a dinner party, sitting on the couch chatting with 2 other couples while their kids played. A little girl (11 months), fell over, and looked like she was about to cry, so DH looked at her for a second, and then picked her up. I was shocked! He never touches other peoples kids- he doesn't really like most of them. I almost started crying it was so sweet, and it made me realize what a great father he is going to be!

I'm naturally really good with kids, and DH doesn't think he is (even though they all love him, he isn't comfortable around them) and so little things like this make me so happy : )

What makes you realize your DH will be a good daddy?

The way DH is with our dog. I know he will be really loving toward the baby, it's just the caring for the baby that I'm worried about. He has never been around babies so he doesn't even know how to change a diaper.

all of our friends who have kids, my fiance plays with them for hours on end. He sits and reads with them, plays outside, and really interacts with them rather than just sort of ignoring them. I hope he's so hands on with ours!

My H loves kids and loves to take a paternal/mentor role with children & teenagers, encouraging them to dream big and get the most out of life. He signed up for Big Brothers last spring (we had a Little for a while but the match closed through no fault of our own). He also just signed himself up for a "Daddy Boot Camp" class later this month.

I figured he would be a good dad when he met Elvira my little 5pd silky terrier. He still spoils her rotten and gives her whatever she wants. I hope he disciplines LO better than that lol! Also he is very good with his two little nieces.

I know my DH will be a great father by the way he interacts with our 8 nieces and nephews. He really plays with them and pays attention to them. And I can tell by the way he treats our dog.

I do think he will be scared by diaper changes, how to feed and holding such a fragile tiny baby at first. But once he does those things a few times I know he will get more comfortable.

My husband had friends with children when he was younger, so he was around babies before. He's awesome with our four furry kids. He's great with our niece and nephew, and kids just like him in general. He's wanted to be a Daddy for a long time. I can't wait to see him with our baby. It will only make me love him that much more. I know he's going to be great! He's even trying to figure out a way that he can stay home with the baby so we don't have to put LO in daycare...keeping my fingers crossed everything works out.

The way my DH steals his nephew away from other people and says "It's Uncle Bubba's turn!" and he will play with him (he's 6 months old now) forever, baby babbling, cooing, tickling, and snuggling him.. that's one of the cues that we were ready for another baby! When our nephew was born we had the baby bug bad!!!

I'm usually the one that never touches other people's kids... my DH is better with other people's kids than I am!
