Hi ladies. I just had an idea I wanted to share with you all. As Sadie was conceived through DI (sperm), DH and I have vowed that every year we will "give something back" in some way, to show our appreciation of the selfless gift that the anonymous donor gave. I even wrote a children's book about this which some of you read (p.s. still waiting to hear from the publisher).
Anyway, last year I wrote the book as my way to give back to the IF community and as November is somewhat approaching (November is the month we finally got our BFP so it's the month we do our good deed) it's time to think of what I am going to give back this year.
I am too "old" to be an egg donor so I thought about becoming a bone marrow donor. I did a quick google search and voila, a free mouth swab kit is being mailed to me so I can be added to the donor registration. It seriously took me 15 minutes to fill this registration out online and honestly it could save somebody's life.
I thought I would share the link with you all in case this would be something you and dh or whoever would be interested in joining.
Re: Donor ladies (or anybody) come in **baby in siggy**
I would love to.... in fact, I tried to earlier this year.
They have a height/weight restriction that I did not meet. Go figure. These days bone marrow donation is nothing but a glorified, pre-prepped, bag of blood. Not sure how my weight really matters - - but whatever.
PLUS, my RE would not clear me to donate regular blood while cycling (much less while PG) so I don't think this will really help posting it here.
I barely snuck in under the weight restriction. Sorry it didn't work out for you BUT even if the cycling ladies can't donate now maybe it's something to keep in mind once you are able to OR your spouse can, if able.
SarahKelly that is an awesome idea! I think it is so wonderful that you are doing this every year and it is such a great example of giving back for your daughter.
I want to get on the donor list or donate blood or something but I am not allowed because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, my blood is bad :-(. However, I did make it my mission to find someone to donate on my behalf who wouldn't otherwise have done it. My little brother joined the registry for me. He rocks!
Anyways I just wanted to tell you that I think you are a great example of a giving person.
