formula question

Can babies become "tired" of a certain brand/type of formula? This may be silly, but all of a sudden within the past couple of weeks, one of my boys fights the bottle almost every time. He used to be a great eater and suck down his bottle in no time, but now he won't even open his mouth. When I do get it in his mouth it is a struggle to get him to take it. I can't imagine that he is not hungry because this even happens with the first bottle of the day. I am concerned because he only gained 6 oz from his 5 month to 6 month appointment and is not taking as much in as he had been. He does get solids and usually takes them ok (not always). Can he not like the type of formula anymore (Similac Isomil-soy)? Any ideas/suggestions??

Re: formula question

  • Unless you have made a switch recently no I don't think so because how would they know the difference?

When DS started solids a couple times a day he started getting fussy with the 4 bottles he was getting during the day it was how I knew he was ready to drop a bottle feeding.

Are they crawling more active than usual?

It could also just be a phase, when DS hits milestones he is not interested in eating all he wants to do is move move move!

  • thanks for the reply....he is not crawling yet, but is a very active baby. I hope it is a phase! He needs to gain weight...he is a peanut compared to my other DS!
  • We used to worry a lot about Sadie's lack of interest in food, especially once she started being mobile because it was like pulling teeth to get her to stop and eat anything. Plus I was trying to compare her to what other babies her age we eating and she was no where near the eater that other kids her age were/are. We finally just came to the conclusion that she isn't a big eater, never has been and probably never will be. For example she is a year old now and has never taken more than a 6 ounce bottle at any feeding. Ever. And usually she doesn't even finish the 6 ouncer. My 4 month old niece is already chugging 8 ounces with no problems. Just different babies. Other babies are eating oatmeal with fruit for breakfast and finishing it all. If we get half a jar of fruit in her for breakfast we're super thrilled and that's without cereal or oatmeal. It's just how she is.

A friend advised me to not fight with food. You will never win. They will eat when they are hungry. They really will.

Although they are siblings ,they may/do have very unique genetic make-ups so maybe comparing the two should go by the wayside for now. Unless your doctor seems concerned then I would just go with the flow.

  • I just wanted to say 'hi!'.  I don't have an idea, but I can't imagine he doesn't like the formula.  We have some difficulty with solids on some nights.

Do you have the right nipple size?  I've read on here that it doesn't matter, but for my DS  I needed to go to a level 3 - 1 day younger than yours....
