Why didn't anybody warn me about this..(TMI inside)

Twice in one week, I've had to help DD poop. It's been stuck on the way out. I used a thermometer to chip away at it. I think it is the transition to formula that is making her so constipated. I never thought I'd have to pick at poop.

I have nothing against formula, but you just made me incredibly glad that I breast feed.

Wow this is a new one for me. I have yet to have to pick out poop. Here's to hoping I never have to and that your DD's constipation resolves itself soon. Have you tried apple juice or prune juice? Apple juice worked for me in the past.

i had a similar experience with DS. i thought he was done going, but then when i took his diaper off, he started straining and pushing and crying. i couldn't put the diaper back on because then i wouldn't have been able to tell if i needed to do anything. and he pushed so hard he peed a little and i just stood there, cheek to cheek with him (he was on the changing table), both of us covered in pee, holding him as he cried trying to poop.

yep, that was NOT in what to expect the first year...

I am glad i EPed for so long too. Of course the first incident happened on the first day that I had stopped EPing so i felt incredible guillt. Yes, we've been donig prune juice mixed with water. Of course today, DH forgot to put the juice in the water.

I had to assist also. I went to change DDs diaper, thinking she was done pooping, and when I opened it she started pushing and straining. I grabbed a wipe and pulled it out :-( Gross and sad.

I had to do that for DD, too - while EBF. She's half and half now, BM and FF. We have a thermometer specific for that. It's sad to have to do that, but the relief on their little faces is totally worth it.
