First PP period- how heavy?

TMI but I got my first postpartum period yesterday and I was expecting it to be bad based on what I have heard from others. The cramping is horrible- I have thrown up twice and it is super heavy. I am soaking through a tampon every hour. I had pretty light to medium periods prior to having a baby so don't really have a good sense of normal I guess. Should I call the dr or is this a normal amount of bleeding?

Re: First PP period- how heavy?

  • I had very, very light periods pre-preg and my first pp was very bad. It was the only thing that was as bad as I read it would be on the boards!

  • mine was really heavy. not quite as heavy as yours, but pretty heavy. i have always had bad periods so i was expecting it to be just as bad as it was. maybe if it doesn't get any better after a few days call the doc. otherwise i wouldn't worry about it.
  • Thanks girls! I figured I probably shouldn't worry but you always hear if you are soaking through a pad/tampon in an hour then that is bad so I didn't know what to do! Sounds like I will just have to ride it out. :)
