Elmwood OBGYN

I'm a patient at Elmwood and I've just found out that I'm pregnant. I'd like to deliver the baby at Cooper (a family member is a Pediatrician there), but I know that the Elmwood docs are affiliated with Penn. I'm very new to this...do I need to switch my OBGYN to someone who delivers at Cooper?

Re: Elmwood OBGYN

  • I'm not sure if you would need to switch.  But I wanted to say that I delivered at Cooper (will deliver again in a few months) and use Cooper OBGYN.  All the drs there are awesome so if you do have to switch you'll be in good hands.

    And congrats on the pg!

  • I go to Elmwood and delivered at Underwood. It all depends on where the doc is allowed to deliver. I'd check with the office to see if any of the docs deliver anywhere but Underwood and if they don't deliver at Cooper you will have to switch docs.

  • Your can deliver at Underwood with Elmwood and Underwood would just have a house pediatrician check the baby while you are there.... after you can take the baby to any pedi.

But for the record I wouldn't deliver at Underwood and I really dislike the Elmwood docs esp Vega!!

  • Everyone is different. I really like Elmwood and Dr. Vega did my c-section and I have no complaints at all.

  • My Docs were with Virtua, and because I work at Cooper, I had to deliver there for insurance reasons.  (They paid 100% at Cooper) If I were to deliver at Virtua, I would have had to pay 30% of the delivery.  Ouch!  Needless, to say, I switched to Cooper OB's and delivered my baby at Cooper.  It was a great experience!
  • I go to Elmwood, and delivered at Underwood. I've had a good experience with Elmwood and Underwood, and I have 2 neighbors that had their babies there too. Dr. Gibson did my c-section.
