2nd Cloth Diaper ?

So I about fell over when I saw 12 BM AIO's are  $300! I know they will last forever though, how many do you like to have on hand per child? I'll be a SAHFM so I'll most likely be doing laundry every day!

  • Uh, which AIOs are you looking at?  That's ridiculous!

  • I just looked at a local store's website. It said 12 for $278 plus tax. Is that not a good deal?

Is doing an AIO cheaper than buying prefolds with a cover?

  • That is pricey.  Are those the organic?  You can get BG pockets 12 for $203.something.

I'd recommend having about 24 on hand, assuming you don't have a nb.  Newborns pee a ton and tend to go through diapers a lot quicker. That will have you washing ever 2 days or so.  I'd say having enough for 2 days would be ideal, even if you are going to SAH.  Diaper laundry isn't bad at all, but with the extra wear on your diapers, and water you'd be using, I'd opt to spend a bit more in the beginning and make it that much easier on yourself.  Then you don't need to worry if you plan on being out all day, or travel a bit.

I'd actually consider getting a bit of a mix, if you're able.  Maybe some prefolds (they're really not that hard, although they're not as OS) and pockets with an AIO or two in there.  You have to be somewhat cautious, as not every diaper will fit every baby, so when you foster, you'll be taking a bit of a chance with that.  Pfs tend to work pretty universally (I think - others might disagree) because you're really creating the fit yourself.

This seems like a super good deal...doesn't it?

  • If you buy the BG Organics in bulk, they work out to about 20 on most sites.

I recommend trying a few things before investing in a whole stash. Since you'll be staying at home, you might end up liking prefolds for around the house, AIOs for out & about, and fitteds + wool for overnight :)

  • That link is to the BG 3.0 One Size Pockets - they have the title messed up with adding in All-In-One. The BG AIO is a different diaper. They're charging $21.66 USD per diaper for a 6 pack and can charge whatever they want, but that's definitely NOT a good deal. MSRP on them without a bulk discount is $17.95! Most places you can get:

    3 / $53.10
    6 / $104.70
    12 / $203.40

  • Ok, I swear I saw $500 when I read the post.  It's even in my adding machine tape as $500.

    Must get eyes checked...
