2nd Trimester

Sour Taste in Mouth, Discharge, & Flamin Boobs - what I learned 2day at docs

Had my monthly appointment and bought my little list of questions.

This particular doc was a gem to put up with my inquiries but he said he gets questions like this all the time.  sweet.

1.  Why am I still nauseous, have a horrible sour taste in my mouth all day and it's keeping me from drinking or eating.

Answer:  It's acid reflux.  It's not the textbook version of burning heartburn, but the fact that the acid caused by hormones is being repumped through my tract...causing the nausea and giving me this metallic constant taste in my mouth.   I need to stay away from OJ, Tomatoes (2 things I have almost every day) and to limit my water intake (the water is creating more acid)  Drink when I'm thirsty but not to the point where I have sloshy belly.  Sit up after eating and don't lay down for about 30 minutes afterwards.

Take maximum strength Zantac to help neutralize it.  Eventually I can bring back tomatoes.  No more V8 juice, and to drink apple juice or grape juice if need be.

2.  My Discharge is Sunshiney.  What's up with that?

Answer: He hears of more women with yellow discharge than white.  Perfectly normal.  Only time to be a bit concerned is if it is greenish, brown and smelly.  Otherwise, embrace the yellow.

3.  This morning, while leaning over the sink to wash up, my boobs suddenly had a meltdown.  They were on FIRE, and the aching pain that persisted was really uncomfortable - moreso than lightening boobs. Are my boobies becoming nuclear?

Answer:   It's a flush of hormones that are coming in all at once into the milk factory. I can alleviate the burning with cold compresses and a bit of cool air (fanning myself helps).  I need to buy more supportive bras at this point.  He said that when a back is sprained or swollen, one wears a back brace for support to alleviate swelling, same concept with a bra - if they hang low sweet chariot style, the hormones producing the pain, etc. are rushing in all at once and my boobies aren't used to it yet. (Poor boobies)  Balance the weight with a good supportive bra until birth.

4.  Blemishes make me look dorky.  I don't like looking dorky.

Answer:  Par for the course, but 1.5% hydrocortisone dabbings on the area will lessen the blemishes.  It doesn't have to be an acne brand either.  Regular OTC Cortisone is fine.

Hope some of these help someone out there mabye going through similar circumstances.

Good Luck.

  • I hear you on the metallic taste..i have been noticing it more and more. and I have been verping alot b/c of the acid. I am not stranger to acid reflux so I always have Tums on hand and i keep two pillows under my head to keep me more elevated.

Mine isn't sunshiney just so heavy..omg, Jenny McCarthy was right to call it slug trails in her book Indifferent

My skin on my back and chest has been insanely dry and bumpy. it's like KP times 50... ugh

  • awww, hope you feel better soon!

Btw...pillows under your head doesn't work. You need to elevate your whole upper torso (the whole digestive tract, not just your mouth and throat). You can do this by sitting up on the pillows more than you usually would...like a "watching TV" type position...or you can put something under the legs at the head of your bed to raise it 6" off the ground. DH and I have our bed chocked up on bed risers. It works well and it keeps me elevated at night no matter how much I slump down in the bed and move around.
