  • Hey- I used to be a Pets board regular. They are a good group of girls that clean up the mistakes others make. They have the animals' best interests at heart. They're not bad, just passionate. I wish I was as passionate sometimes. They make the world a better place for a lot of living creatures.

    What's your passion BW?

I'll answer any question you have with, "TALK TO A BEHAVIORISSSSSST!"

I don't understand why people are so flip about behaviorists. If you have a car problem you can't fix, you talk to a mechanic. If you have a medical problem, you talk to a doctor. If you have a marriage troubles, you talk to a therapist. Why is it such a radical suggestion that if you're having a pet problem, you talk to a behaviorist?

In general, I agree with most of the sentiment of the pet board. I despise the delivery. Many seem more concerned about being right rather than being effective; I think that's sad because they do have good advice to give. But the reality is that no one will take you seriously if you call people idiots or children crotch fruit. That's trying to be right, not trying to be effective.

  • Yeah, there are some knowledgeable and passionate women over there.  They genuinely care for animals, which is admirable.   It's unfortunate that there are some crazies giving the rational sane women over there a bad rap.

I've been trying to stay out of all of this because it's just gone way past the point of reasonable, but I could not agree with you more susie.

This is how I feel.  You take the good with the bad, I guess.  I'm glad there are women like them in the world.  I consider myself one of them as I will do nearly anything to rescue/save a pet.

I guess the same could be said about our board, huh?

i think we all know BW's passion. KittenGator.

but seriously, i think its awesome that they are passionate. and god bless tehem for taking animals nobody else wants. I am one of those people. However, the problem is that:

    1. they are not realistic a lot of times. behaviorist require a lot of time and money that most people dont have.

and 2. you cant rail the shiit out of somebody for not making the same choice as you. its just not possible for everyone to do so. As long as their actions were humane and they learn from it - what is the problem??

don't get on me about this.  i have a shelter dog.  but when you go off telling people to kick in windows to save a dog or demean a woman who is already down about losing her pet (who she has already said was part of the family), it's rude.  those ladies are crazy.

I would disagree. I've worked with two behaviorists. The initial consult fee is about $200 to $250 dollars; the follow-up phone and e-mail consultations have been free.

It helped a ton in correcting an undesirable behavior with doggy. Sure, it takes a lot of time. But that's kind of part of being an adult -- sometimes you have to make sacrifices and put extra time into tasks.

  • Everything is about tone. There are freaks like goodhartedmommy who can make one, vehemently supportive of homebirth want to run to the hospital. Attachment parents that make me want to plop Jo to sleep in the yard and Pet owners who turn to accusatory, violence wishing zealots and make you never want to own anything non human.

Its really not the board, but the few, like we have on here, who turn the whole thing into an alienating situation. Sadly, the loudest showcase the board.

And we have a few on here who turn things sad and sour on occasion too.

actually when you are dealing with a dog like mine it IS a lot of time and money. and um, i dont know what you make money-wise but $250 is a lot to me. (and a good chunk of that is pet food.) not to mention the travel expenses.

i get what you are saying but its relative - and thats where the realism comes into play.?

If your are was broke, would you pay $250 to fix it?

i think that may be the funniest thing i've ever read on this board.

  • If 250 is not a lot to you can you give me 250 to pay for one to make my dog stop barking?

are you seriously comparing a car to a dog?

yes, i would. because my car gets me to my job which enable me to provide for MY CHILD. she ranks much much higher than the dog.

and i have spent thousands trying to fix this dog. so dont even try to get on me about not putting anything into it. in fact, there were times i couldnt fix my shiitbox car because i spent too much on the dog.?

Hey BW---I feel ya!!  I went there last week when I found out how severely allergic my DS is to the cat and thought I could comiserate and perhaps get a couple tips and wow......they flipped out on me.  I'm all about rescue -- can't go in to detail but I currently work with hundreds of them --and so I understand how passionate many can be, but we are all human.  And I think they sometimes forget how to comiserate with others on empathetic terms.
